Director of Finance

Role Description

Our client is looking for a Finance Director who will be responsible for the overall financial strategy.

This includes identifying cost savings opportunities and driving meaningful analyses to take advantage of the opportunities that deliver improvements.

They will liaise closely with counterparts of the senior leadership team for Safety, Operations, Sales, HR, and others to provide comprehensive support and analytics for key strategic initiatives.

He/she will define and develop routine system performance metrics that align with the strategic direction of the business.

Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with colleagues to identify cost savings opportunities and drive meaningful financial analyses to take advantage of the opportunities that deliver improvements to the bottom line

Provide comprehensive support and analytics for key strategic initiatives as well as tactical operations

Direct team to drive operating cost improvements in the fleet, warehouse operations, and the freight brokerage business, across systems, leases, equipment, and headcount

Work collaboratively with supply planning and operations through the integrative planning process to project monthly and quarterly financial performance

Deliver financial bridge, monthly and quarterly accounting close processes including oversight of expense accruals, capital expense tracking, and budget variance commentary and compliance requirements

Oversight of accounting and finance team operations which include communicating clear strategic expectations, growth model, policy enforcement, and establishing a cadence for performance reviews

Establish collaborative and effective working relationships and create a high-performing, positive team culture

Manage and continually improve all aspects of existing business management systems

Drive the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new and existing systems and software, and provide training to the user base

Deliver financial business case for all new services, systems, and equipment

Manage the relationships with software and system providers, software implementation partners, and Information Systems providers’ personnel

Interface and work collaboratively with leadership in IT, Customer Care, Sales, Finance, Accounting, and other departments

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite

Advanced proficiency in the use of business intelligence software, i.e.

TM1, ArcPlan, Microsoft, and SharePoint, PeopleSoft, Invoice Systems, EDI

Advanced knowledge of Logistics Support System, i.e.

ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, Transportation Management Systems (Carrier Point, JDA, Manhattan, etc.), Warehouse Management Systems (Manhattan, etc.), Fleet Management

Advanced knowledge of process control, transportation, warehousing, and inventory reporting.

Advanced verbal and written communication skills

Advanced analytical skills

Advanced Business Finance

Advanced problem solving and decision-making skills

Advanced training skills

Advanced Project Management skills

Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university

7+ years related experience in Finance within transportation, distribution, or high volume manufacturing environment.

Preferred Education/Experience

Transportation background

Masters Degree in Finance, Supply Chain/Logistics, Engineering, Information Technology

Working Conditions

Required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch

Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing

Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery

Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone

Required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Must continuously have the ability to differentiate colors precisely

Occasionally operate business machines

Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on the open grating on elevated surfaces
