The Staff Accountant applies principles of accounting to contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the finance department by executing daily tasks with a strong attention to detail. The Staff Accountant role will utilize strong accounting knowledge, time management skills and effective problem solving to ensure success and deep involvement in operations of the business. Also, the Staff Accountant supports both the plant manager and accounting manager with day-to-day operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparation of general ledger entries with proper supporting documentation for review and approval
• Reconcile general ledger accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, intercompany, and various accruals
• Assist with physical inventory counts
• Review cycle count adjustments or unit of measure adjustments and effectively communicate any irregularities to the accounting manager
• Review monthly standard cost adjustment report with purchasing and provide clear and concise explanations to accounting manager
• Responsible for updating monthly checklist for recurring journal entries and reviewing list for process improvements to achieve close deadlines
• Analyze monthly variances and partner with all areas of business to provide explanations for variances to forecast/budget and determine if adjustments required
• Assist finance with budget and forecasts for various expense accounts
• Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes
• Assists the Accounting Manager in the preparation of internal financial statements

• Solid computer skills and the ability to operate a ten-key calculator.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, Excel and Word

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to use dexterity and sitting for a long period of time. Occasionally the employee will be required to stand, walk and lift up to 20 pounds.

Education Required:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Experience Preferred

• 1-3 years general accounting experience
• Prior work experience in manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of cost accounting
• Advanced excel knowledge to use dynamic formulas and pivots
