– 5:00 p.m.* *Subject to Change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The General Services department is seeking a Senior Project Manager who will manage the design and construction of projects for the Parks Capital Program.

This position will perform the following duties:
Prepares concept diagrams and site analysis for park projects
Develops scope, schedule and budget for projects
Procures, negotiates and manages design and construction contracts
Reviews construction drawings including landscape and irrigation plan, and oversees construction
Processes pay applications
Coordinates and manages internal and external stakeholders
Ensures completed project work meets the required obligation under the contract; and provides routine project updates
Develops and maintains a good working relationship with clients, primarily the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and contractor representatives.

This position will require performing other duties as assigned, as well as traveling to various offices and locations to complete duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
Job Requirements:

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Physical Sciences or a closely related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, geotechnical, environmental or in a closely related field are required.

Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas Class C driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston Motor Vehicle Assignment and Use Policy (AP 2-2).

Preference will also be given to candidates with the following:-A degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related field-Licensed Landscape Architect-Management experience in the design and construction industry-Experience in park planning and park and landscape design and construction-Construction Management **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.

The department may administer a skills test/assessment.

– If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
