This is a Full-time position in Dallas, TX posted July 5, 2021.

The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist provides clinical and administrative support for all matters of concern relating to the facility wide lifecycle management of networks, networked medical equipment and associated systems.

Biomedical support requires the application of engineering and mechanical concepts and methodology to provide lifecycle management and technical support of diagnostic, therapeutic devices, monitoring, and other care equipment utilized in the practice of medicine.

[ ” Lifecycle management of clinical networked equipment including but not limited to network switches, servers, routers and related infrastructure for all networked complex clinical devices and systems such as Temperature Monitoring, hospital scheduling systems and monitoring.

Completes both routine and complex assignments involved identifying and troubleshooting issues related to VLAN configuration, IP addressing, sub-netting, HL7, DICOM, Access Control List and network security across the medical device network.

Coordinates with other facility support departments including but not limited to Facilities Management Service, Office of Information Technology, Sterile Processing Service, and Environmental Management Service.

Utilizes advanced network test equipment and software.

Manages, troubleshoots and maintains complete systems of computerized networks, databases and servers including but not limited to Clinical information systems that store or facilitate patient information.

These clinical information systems include but are not limited to Temperature monitoring systems, tracking systems such as RTLS, physiological monitoring systems, Clinical Information Systems, Anesthesia Record Keeping, and other systems for which Special Device Isolation Architecture would apply.

Implements and plans for new and emerging technologies including but not limited to special purpose modalities, network management and storage, and virtual data centers.

Designs, implements and manages network incident response due to infection, loss of service or regional and local policy changes according to VA guidelines.

Ensures proper security configuration for assigned devices and networks.

Regularly reviews and installs available approved software updates and virus definitions for applicable networked clinical devices.

Leads development of disaster recovery procedures for critical systems to be enacted in the event of device failure.

Adheres to Guidelines in both pre-procurement and during system implementation.

Loads operating system and clinical application software as needed.Responsible for lifecycle management of all clinical information devices and systems, to include physical and network support.

Completes both routine and complex assignments involved in the installation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of these complex clinical information systems, devices and sub systems.

Specific tasks include but are not limited to incoming inspections, regular and unscheduled maintenance, and planning for end of life replacement in conjunction with clinical services.

Utilizes common test equipment including, but not limited to, electrical safety analyzers, network analyzers, and multimeters.

Maintains functional knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards of regulatory bodies including but not limited to The Joint Commission, National Fire Protection Association, Food and Drug Administration, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, American College of Radiology, Federal Information Processing Standards.

Documents all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system).

This documentation is completed in accordance with regulatory body requirements, Healthcare Technology Management.

Documentation of Services guidelines and other organizational requirements.

Maintains documentation of biomedical information systems covering ePHI requirements, VLAN, IP address, antivirus software, security and other required information.

Functions as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and keeps appropriate certification levels.

Investigates, remediates and documents recalls and safety alerts within established timeframes.

Participates in local safety improvement processes such as Root Cause Analysis, safety work groups, and Environment of Care Rounds.

Identifies hazards during routine job performance and takes action to ensure they are addressed and corrected.

Maintains knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology, including scientific advances, network protocols, and vendor changes.

Focuses on professional development in all areas of clinical medical technology lifecycle management including technical skills.

Knowledge and training are obtained from formal or informal means.Provides training and education as appropriate to clinical information technology end users and clinical staff.

Provides mentoring and technical training to peers and development graded BESS.

May participate in hiring panels or working on VISN/National initiatives as a technical expert.

Represents Biomedical/Clinical Engineering department on committees and in meetings.
