Network Engineer – IR Infrastructure

University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

This is a Full-time position in Dallas, TX posted August 21, 2021.

Job Summary UT Southwestern is looking to hire a Network Engineer I in the IR Infrastructure department.

Experience and Education Associates Degree in a technical field or equivalent, with 1 year of job-related experience.

A minimum of 1 year of experience in a support position or role in an information systems environment.

Prior experience with software or appliances used in network systems.

The ideal candidate will have 1 year in an enterprise network support role with a degree or 3 years of experience in a support of an enterprise information systems environment.

Job Duties Works under general supervision to perform basic network duties and day-to-day operations and procedures for maintaining campus wide area networks.

Works directly with other Engineers to document and plan network communications systems.

Performs IP administration for including server registration and renewals.

Troubleshoots network components and recommends improvements to the network.

Primary support for Call Center (HEAT) assignments.

Assists with responses to security incidents to prevent additional loss and obtains and preserves forensic evidence.

Performs scheduled vulnerability testing for all data network components.

Generates reports from monitoring systems pertaining to network bandwidth utilization, and other traffic patterns.

Performs and evaluates data network components under the direction of Managers and other levels of engineers.

Remains knowledgeable of changes in technology, industry practices, and state and federal regulatory requirements by attending training, trade shows, and related venues.

Performs network switch and UPS deployment as directed Participates in on-call rotation whose duties include nights and weekends Participates in scheduled change windows Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Works requires good verbal and written communications skills.

Work requires skill in delivering timely, quality customer service.

Works requires knowledge of authoritative standards, guidelines, and best practices relative to data network and security systems.

Work requires ability to formulate and sustain effective and productive working relationships between diverse members of project teams and work groups within Information Resources and other departments at the institution.

Work requires knowledge of technical computer security issues and Windows, UNIX, and LINUX operating systems.

Work requires knowledge in network design, firewall security development, firewalls (hardware/Software, Operating Systems), and network routing/switching protocols.

Work requires physical exertion working with and connecting network devices.

Work requires exercise of independent judgment in application of procedures, techniques or practices to work problems.

Work requires development of policies and procedures and recommendation of products for approval to meet department needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed in general office area.

May be required to visit switching locations, wiring closets, and other campus networking facilities.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources or his/her designee.
