The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Clinical and Economic Research Medical Director, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.

Here, you will make an impact by: Being a key member of the CER Senior Executive team, engaged in enhancing our clinical patient classification solutions spanning population health, quality of care, inpatient payment, outpatient payment, episodic care, and severity of illness and contributing to the overall business strategy and direction of the organization.

Guiding the overall clinical vision for the CER organization and provide clinical direction to the Health Information Systems division.

The position provides clinical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare software solutions to our 5000 US customers and more internationally.

Responsibilities also include the strategy, development and implementation of innovative clinical programs that include collaboration with strategic business partners.

Being a full research participant in the clinical logic content design, development and application for the 3M HIS organization around CER methodologies with academic rigor.

Efforts to enhance our clinical resources to: 1) build out and enhance our existing products and methods with clinically precision, to include ambulatory, site neutral and post
– acute, episodic care classification and quality measures, 2) instigate and supervise ongoing CER research efforts with academic rigor, and 3) promote our core philosophy around outcomes and cost and the clinical definitions underlying the methodologies and measures.

Helping shape the 3MHIS CER vision, mission, and core values and provide leadership, support and direction to Clinical & Economic Research and Regulatory & Government Affairs in its ongoing efforts to incorporate new ideas and the resulting advances in health care measurement and management, particularly in the areas of quality of care and population health for existing and future 3M HIS CER efforts.

Lead the research team to “market-test” and then “market” our ideas, products, and research initiatives at state, national, international levels with public and private payers and other stakeholders Keeping abreast of emerging models in health care financing and delivery; identify and define new and innovative strategies to achieve business goals and objectives and identify opportunities to collaborate and develop clinical opportunities with executive team and other health delivery systems to achieve affordable outcomes.

Publishing articles, blogs and comments on classification related issues as well as responses to articles.

Actively engage in business development opportunities to include presenting 3M HIS business and clinical capabilities to consultants, business partners, Medicaid/Medicare, private payers and risk-bearing providers in addition to officers in key accounts and influence the adoption of 3M HIS patient classification systems.

Collaborate with research team to develop approaches that combine the power of categorical models with big data to drive further refinement of our models enhancing our analytic abilities to express and summarize clinically relevant results of analyzing big data making results that much more understandable and actionable across the entire health system.

Building and leveraging cross functional collaborative relationships to achieve shared company goals.

Support marketing and sales in understanding and communicating the value of the methodologies and enhancements to drive growth.

Promote collaboration to both internal and external healthcare team members; develop close professional working relationships in academia, governmental, non-governmental and consulting health care organizations throughout the U.S.

and the world Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications: Medical Doctor (MD or DO) Current unrestricted license to practice medicine Ten (10) year of professional post-residency experience in direct patient care Seven (7) years of experience in Healthcare Services Research and Development Five (5) combined years of experience with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, State Medicaid, Private Payers or comparable experience e Five (5) years of recent experience with healthcare payment and quality outcomes policy Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Master’s in Business Administration degree (MBA), Masters in Biostatistics/Epidemiology, Masters in Public Health/Policy or comparable degree Strategic Planning in Healthcare business experience 5 years related leadership function in healthcare or healthcare information technology related field/industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience Board Certified Knowledge of managed healthcare systems, medical quality assurance and quality improvement Strategic and innovative thinker with proven ability to communicate a vision and drive results Demonstrated management, organizational and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively internally and externally Self-assured and results oriented Demonstrated ability to assess business needs, design and implement programs and evaluate results Candidate must have prior experience presenting health care related topics at national or regional conferences and interest in speaking to clients and at conferences in addition to other elements of public/media/marketing relations Location: Remote Travel: 30% travel may be required Relocation Assistance: May be authorized Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
