External Description:
he Respiratory Clinical Researcher is responsible for collaborating with respiratory leadership, educators, and key provider stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve evidence-based practices or current treatment modalities related to the practice of Respiratory Care. This includes, but is not limited to literature reviews, protocol development, conducting device or drug research trials, quality improvement initiatives and bench-top studies. In this role they may serve as Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator or Research Coordinator. The position also assists in product evaluation via bench-top testing when applicable.
Shift Details: Mon- Fri 9AM to 5 PM And Some evenings and weekends depending on department needs.
Responsibilities:
* Participate and provide clinical subject matter expertise in literature searches and analysis to develop and maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of current respiratory care practices, modalities, products, and devices.
* Conduct studies related to department needs when evidence or literature gaps exist, including but not limited to study set-up, implementation, fiscal monitoring, and data collection/entry. In studies that involve human subjects, may evaluate patients for inclusion and exclusion criteria as appropriate. Consent and enroll subjects on trials as appropriate. Be familiar with treatment for assigned studies. Coordinate/perform scheduling of procedures and treatments and serve as an educational resource for participants and staff regarding study requirements. Be proficient at reviewing medical records to assess patient’s disease status, treatment course, and adverse events. Complete case report forms and submit to sponsor according to deadlines. Participate in long-term follow-up efforts on research participants and submit on-going data. Communicate with pharmacy to ensure investigational drug is ordered per protocol when needed. Clinically licensed coordinators may be responsible for administering study related medications.
* Open and maintain institutional approval for research studies including but not limited to initial Institutional Review Board submissions (creating consent forms, HIPAA forms, project summaries), new research questionnaires, amendments, annual reviews and adverse event reporting. Consult with Children’s Medical Center Research Department to establish coordinator timesheets and service orders, input research orders in EPIC, and provide ongoing assistance with research billing to ensure compliance with applicable laws and institutional policies. Communicate with sponsor to keep all documents updated. Communicate with physicians and clinical staff regarding patient research participation.
* Collaborates with research administration for the coordination of any research grants.
* Disseminates results of studies with staff via published articles, local or national conferences, and clinical practice guidelines as appropriate.
* Works with respiratory leadership and educators to implement policy and practice changes and assists with EPIC report generation and data analysis.
* May interact with medical leaders, administration, management, caregivers, ancillary staff, coworkers, vendors, and agencies
* outside of Children’s Medical Center; participates in hospital committees as assigned.
* Requires the knowledge and skills needed to assess the usefulness of new equipment, the effectiveness of present and proposed treatment modalities
* Must be able to read and critically evaluate the published studies presented by other investigators
* Experience conducting literature reviews and summarizing/analyzing results
* Understands how to design and implement study protocols, has basic knowledge of statistical analysis and software, and how to write and submit articles for publication to scientific journals.
* Maintains knowledge of bench-top testing equipment such as lung simulator and spectrophotometer
* Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 5 years of Relevant experience required
* Respiratory clinical research experience Preferred
* Respiratory project management preferred
EDUCATION
Four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Degree in Respiratory Care preferred Req
Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Pref
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
CCRP/CCRC certification through SoCRA / ACRP Pref
Current Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner license
RRT registration through NBRC Upon Hire Req
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
PALS with in 180 days of hire Req
