This is a Full-time position in Houston, TX posted July 5, 2021.

A key member of the Safety Program at the Michael E.

DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) and is responsible for assisting with the coordination and management of a comprehensive OSHA compliance and accident prevention program across MEDVAMC organizational elements.

The primary purpose of the position is to inspect community-based facilities and construction projects to ensure compliance with the Environment of Care Program and Life Safety regulations.

[ ” Major Duties will consist of but not limited to: Independently conducts safety, occupational health, and life code surveys of adult daycare facilities, community nursing homes, community residential care homes, medical foster homes, community veteran centers, nursing units, laboratories, shops and offices to identify and evaluate risk potential involving a wide variety of work environments and occupations.

Establish Safety policies and procedures; and Determines the effectiveness of the unit safety programs.

Writes inspections reports and tracks implementation of corrective actions.

Conducts weekly construction project and worksite evaluations to determine compliance.

Recommends measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions that may mishap.

Able to recognize deviations from regulations and safe practices and quickly decide their multitude.

Shuts down unsafe operations if necessary.

Uploads construction project deficiencies in the VA construction database to track trends and ensure compliance.

Facilitates monthly construction meetings to review construction progress and compliance issues.

Review Confection Control Risk Assessments to ensure compliance of upcoming construction projects.

Develops and Implements Interim Life Safety Measures when required for the construction project.

Evaluates proposed renovations, new work processes, new equipment and engineering controls to ensure compliance with fire codes and incorporation of adequate measures for prevention of hazards to employees, patients, and visitors.

Performs other duties as assigned.
