VOLV is a quickly growing, revenue generating tech startup driven by a cloud-based custom app.

Our distributed engineering team builds mostly server-side code and works in node.js, ReactJS, and more.

We deliver a “drip messaging” service that helps subscribers to build healthy habits, based on a customized series of content drips from their favorite creator(s) in wellness, nutrition, and fitness.

We offer this service to content creators, who in turn promote it to their followers, who we then serve directly.

This system will continually increase features, automation, communication channels, manageability, and AI.

YOU are an experienced, self-managing, smart developer who wants increasing responsibility and initiative, and who likes to focus on results without bureaucracy.

Working remotely , you’ll report directly to the CTO, initially as a flexible-hours contractor, with the option to go full-time within 6 months while staying remote .

You will write code, design solutions and improvements, and lightly supervise a small number of other remote engineers.

Our code is server, cloud, and Web based, and our working style is Agile and non-bureaucratic.

We strive to be “just formal enough” to keep the work on track and the results predictable.

We’re early in the company’s life cycle, a time when good-quality, rapid upgrades are more important than checking off every possible feature.

You’ll wear many hats and deliver production-quality results in a fast-paced, fairly unstructured environment.

You will work regularly with the data/analytics team and the CEO (who is the product owner) and will have direct access to everyone in the company.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Develop server and web code using node,js, ReactJS, JavaScript (es6), HTML, LESS, Heroku, and Postgres Work in our small, distributed, agile development team to implement new feature requests, going all the way from wireframes to deployed production code Efficiently strengthen and improve the existing code base, much of which is v1 quality, to handle larger workloads and expanded capabilities Design and implement appropriate level of automated tests to ensure your code is good for deployment Keep your work planned and organized using JIRA and other collaboration tools.

Communicate key information across project teams, such as project status, success reports, problem reports, architecture, design, data management, and quality assurance Support manual and automated QA testing and UAT for the existing database solutions and new implementations, in coordination with existing data and product teams, using dev/test/prod environments Analyze conditions and identify strategies that minimize implementation risk and/or improve system reliability and performance.

Review code written by other team members, and work collaboratively with them to improve their plans and implementations via light coaching, mentoring, and (with the CTO) thoughtful allocation of work items and learning tasks SOFT SKILLS: the ideal candidate will have all of these Fast learner, with a love for using multiple tools Absolute honesty and integrity Willing to work quickly when needed, and to be thorough when needed.

Commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals or deadlines Able to work independently with minimal supervision, research options, and make recommendations & decisions based on sound judgment Familiar with collaborative teamwork tools and flexible, agile projects Able to regularly communicate & coordinate with several remote colleagues, including some technical leadership for a few other developers Able to work on a few different tasks simultaneously Fluent in spoken and written English Interested in upgrading to full-time or near full-time in the near future Bonus: Interested in healthy lifestyle or habit formation TECH SKILLS: the ideal candidate will have many or most of these, and be able to learn the rest Required: years of experience with node.js Required: experience with react.js, JavaScript (es6), and common JavaScript libraries Experience building server apps and web-based applications with Node.js Experience with HTML, CSS, and ideally LESS.

Experience with Heroku Experience building server apps and web-based applications with Node.js Experience with Postgres DB query definition and optimization.

Experience with webpack Experience with Node.js / Express.js and REST API structure.

Experience in single state tree such as Baobab.js or Redux Experience connecting frontend code to backend data stores (RDBMS, NoSQL, MySQL, PSQL, etc.) Experience doing thorough QA on software releases Comfortable with GitHub, Git, other teamwork and coordination tools Experience designing and implementing straightforward Web-based UI and workflow Ability to build internal engineering documentation, such as system architecture, code guidelines, and best practices JOB DETAILS Work remotely from anywhere Flexible schedule, but highly available during Pacific Time Zone working hours Weekly team calls, daily Slack and Zoom Interactions Start around half time, with potential to increase to full time after 3-6 months SAMPLE TYPICAL TASKS We are designing a new feature for a client which enables them to distribute messages from their account directly to another application.

Configure the code that allows us to point their messages for their users directly to another app.

We are scaling our new-account configuration team and they need a configuration wizard to create user profiles, channels and programs without having to go into the database.

Work with our data team to design a UI/UX flow to achieve that.

Plan and implement the changes needed to make our currently AWS-based system run on a second cloud (such as Azure) Study our work backlog in JIRA, and our existing code base, and work with the CTO and Product Manager to design a series of sprints that upgrade both our features and our infrastructure in a series of manageable, risk-contained steps APPLY NOW We value engineers very highly, and we are excited to hear from you.
