Company Overview

Legal Metrics helps the legal industry define, calculate, and visualize business performance metrics. We’re ramping up on our work to connect hundreds of law firms in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia with the hundreds of global corporations for which they provide over $750B in legal services. Our industry database is uniquely accurate and real-time, and we worked with over 100 industry leaders to design the functionality of the software. We are now working with our initial 30 customers in a series of v1 deployments.

Our initial focus is on diversity, inclusion, and equity metrics. The impact is more than dollars – we are facilitating diversity programs for companies that are improving the careers of lawyers underrepresented by gender, sexual orientation, race, disabilities, or veteran status. Our roadmap also includes metrics that calculate value, customer perceptions, and efficiency.

Role Overview

This role is the data integration and data management lead for the company. During Customer onboarding, the role is engaged with the Customer to understand, map, and integrate with their structured data sources. Once onboarding is complete, the role manages and evolves the global industry database.

This role requires not only technical and customer engagement skills but also a passion for driving diversity and business performance improvements. This role is expected to work closely with our metrics design lead to tell data-driven stories that are insightful to our customers.

All roles at Legal Metrics are remote, although the working location must be based in Houston or elsewhere in Texas. Other locations in U.S. will be considered for candidates who already have knowledge of the ‘big law’ legal market and/or enterprise diversity initiatives.

We expect the salary range to be $65K – $80K, depending on experience. A higher salary is possible for candidates who meet the technical criteria and also have extraordinary experience in legal, diversity, and/or customer engagement.

Responsibilities

The Legal Metrics team is lean, so this role has a broad set of responsibilities. These responsibilities follow the entire lifecycle of our Customers’ sensitive data. To support our model, we install a Metrics Calculator in each Customer’s environment, synchronized with their key data sources. The results of each Metrics Calculator are then aggregated to our global database. This role facilitates this entire process through responsibilities including those below.

  • Customer Onboarding: Using a universal data connector, this role is to integrate our on-premise Metrics Calculator with each Customer’s system to automate these calculations using sets of defined rules.
  • Customer Data Mapping: This role maps our standardized data model to each Customer’s unique data model.
  • Customer Data Validation: For each Customer, the Metrics Calculator runs on a regular schedule. This role validates jobs, uploads, and the validity of the results.
  • Database Design and Management: Legal Metrics has established a data structure for the secure management of global industry data. This role has accountability for this database, including its integrity, design, and ongoing evolution.
  • Data Insights and Strategy: This role is expected to work closely with our CEO and metrics design lead to shape new metrics and new insights for our Customers over time.

Qualifications

We expect qualified applicants to have 3 or more years of experience in areas including, but not limited to, those below.

  • Customer (tech and non-tech) services and leadership skills
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Server, and, ideally, Power BI for queries, views, and stored procedures
  • Knowledge of data modeling (entity relationships and UML)
  • Experience with ETL and/or universal data connector tools
  • Data acquisition and provision by creating and/or configuring and supporting APIs
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Demonstrated experience developing and supporting SQL scripts
  • Understanding of web architecture (front-end code, back-end code, and database)
  • Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and be self-directed
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and sense of ownership
  • Ability to communicate technical issues/solutions to a non-technical audience

Legal Metrics has developed its version 1.0 solution via a senior team of contract ETL engineers, database designers, and data analytics experts. These resources are available to guide and transition as we evolve the above responsibilities to full-time employee roles. Therefore, we are open to junior technical skillsets in candidates who have good core skills and an interesting background and passion for being a superstar.
