The Fiscal Clerk will be a participatory leader: a results-oriented, relationship-building, self-aware team player who also possesses high integrity, politeness, and fostering trust by building relationships with tolerance, patience and support in order to provide the best value in service of the citizens of Brownsville.The Fiscal Clerk provides accounting/ fiscal support for assigned areas of responsibility.

This position is responsible for entering data, updating and maintaining ledgers, journals, and files, and performing various fiscal functions and calculations.

This position works according to set procedures under direct supervision.COMPETENCIES:* Effective Communication* Problem Solving* Computer Skills* Accountability* Customer Service* Learning Strategies* Analytical ThinkingKEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:* Responds to customer inquiries, complaints, and requests.* Creates, revises and edits correspondence and documents such as memos, letters, invoices, reports and/or agendas.* Schedules travel arrangements, inspections, and meetings.* Performs secretarial duties such as receiving and redistributing incoming mail, answering and redirecting phone calls, maintaining and updating the filing system, and providing data entry services.* Receives, receipts, logs, and posts funds from customers, employees, and the general public.Makes deposits and transfers according to direction of supervisor or established policy.* Prepares, processes and maintains invoices, purchase orders, receipts and other financial statements as directed.* Organizes and files receipts and deposits of revenue and expenditure funds into the accounting system.Files bills, vouchers, forms and statements.* Performs various accounting functions such as preparing accounts receivable, deposits, and and/ or vacation and leave information.* Processes billing for third party vendor accounts.* Assists with budget preparation.* Coordinates payroll for area of responsibility; processes load sheets, contracts, time sheets, and vouchers.* Performs routine office tasks such as data entry, typing correspondence, filing, faxing, telephoning and photocopying.* Assists with special projects* Performs related tasks as necessary.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:* Requires high school diploma or GED* Valid Texas Driver’s License.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:* Requires minimum of six months of work related experience.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation electronic office machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.ADA COMPLIANCE:The City of Brownsville is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
