This position reports to the principal investigator (PI).

Job responsibilities are explicitly related to research and require the necessary skills described in detail below:+ Use HPLC-MS-MS or similar analytical platforms, developing protocols and methods for detecting novel compounds, work with instrument manufacturers and vendors on equipment failure, performance or maintenance issues.+ Perform basic techniques in biochemical and molecular analysis such as DNA/RNA/protein extractions, qPCR, enzyme assays, data analysis, and be familiar with genomics data analysis.+ Design, develop and perform experiments in plants in field, greenhouse or growth chambers; undertaking hands-on field activities such as designing field experiments, collecting plant and soil tissue samples; prioritize individual tasks as per the experimental objectives which requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs ,+ Participate in research papers and grant writing, train graduate students and other laboratory personnel.+ Other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements+ Education – PhD in plant physiology, plant biochemistry, horticulture, plant breeding, agronomy or related fieldsAdditional Requirements+ Ability to establish effective working relationships.+ Travel connected with official duties may be required.

This may include attendance at night and/or weekend meetings, participation in out-of-county events.+ Must have the willingness to work necessary hours to fulfill job responsibilities including some evenings and weekends.Preferred Experiences+ At least 2 years of experience working in an analytical laboratory with hands-on experience in UPLC, HPLC
– MS-MS or GC-MS systems and basic knowledge of molecular biology or biochemistry techniques.+ Previous experience working with plants.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:+ Sample collection and extraction of various plant-derived metabolites to develop new methods and protocols for identifying novel compounds+ Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data during meetings and conferences, and perform other computer-related tasks directed by the supervisor.+ Strong service ethic and desire to work as a part of a team, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

Must be able to work individually and by interacting with other research teams within the research center.+ Ability to communicate effectively and excellently.+ Strong organizational and documentation skills.+ Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, farm and technical equipment.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:+ Proficient in analyzing small molecules using analytical instruments like UPLC, HPLC or GC, UV spectrophotometer, mass spectroscopy.+ Operation and routine troubleshooting of equipment and experience with chromatography data acquisition software.+ Familiarity with essential tools related to molecular biology such as DNA/RNA extractions, qPCR, basic concepts of genomics , e xperience in analyzing phenotypic or genomic data is a plusLocation:Uvalde is a community of 16,000 people located in southwest Texas, about an hour and a half from San Antonio.

Much of the surrounding land is used for agriculture, although the Hill Country lies just to the north with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Several state parks and state natural areas are within a two-hour radius drive.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Center at Uvalde houses faculty from a variety of research and extension programs, including breeding and genetics, plant biochemistry, plant physiology, plant pathology, horticulture, economics, range science, wildlife, and 4-H.Application:For additional information contact Dr.
