The Food Service Worker I works in the Food Service Department and works a varied shift.

The Food Service Worker I performs entry-level food service work.

Work involves preparing and serving food, cleaning equipment and work areas, maintaining inventories, and receiving and issuing food and supplies.

Works under close supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

1.

Serves and monitors the distribution of meals, and ensures that guideline for special diets are followed.

2.

Prepares dining areas for the serving of meals and sets up serving lines.

3.

Cleans dining, service, and food preparation areas.

4.

Cleans and sterilizes dishes, kitchen utensils, equipment, and facilities.

5.

Assists in the preparation of modified or special diets and in performing calculations for special diets.

6.

May maintain daily records.

7.

May assist with food preparation to meet snack and meal schedules.

8.

May assist with receiving food deliveries.

9.

Performs related work as assigned.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.

Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsNone required.

Knowledge Skills Abilities1.

Knowledge of food preparation methods, of food storage and preservation, and of sanitation regulations.

2.

Skills in the operation, cleaning, and sanitizing of food service appliances and equipment.

3.

Ability to prepare and serve food; to clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas; and to maintain accurate records.

4.

Ability to receive and understand both verbal and written instructions.

5.

Ability to perform simple arithmetic computations.

Initial Screening Criteria1.

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.

2.

Work experience, preferably in food service.

Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Additional InformationApplicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG list of Excluded Individuals/Entities.
