Manufacturing Staff Engineer

How will you make an impact?

This position will lead a group of Process Engineers on the Manufacturing Engineering Team.

This team supports the Austin manufacturing plant by maintaining, calibrating and repairing laboratory equipment.

The candidate will also be responsible for participating in several other activities such as process improvements (kaizen events, 5S, and JDI), Technical writing, representing group in ongoing projects, and researching and ordering parts/tools.

What will you do?
Extensive travel may be required initially for training.Plan, manage, and lead projects according to timeline and budget; this may include project schedules, validation reports, manufacturing plans, test plans and test reports.Lead technology transfers from R&D to Manufacturing and/or from manufacturing site to manufacturing site.Provide technical leadership on cross functional teams for high throughput oligonucleotide operations, business development and R&D applicationsDesign and conduct engineering experiments, critically analyze complex data using knowledge of advanced engineering statistics and communicate results in a team environment.Identifies and solves engineering problemsConduct process analysis and root cause analysis for manufacturing processesUtilize PPI / DMAIC tools to promote a disciplined investigation approachActively interface with the Manufacturing group and other departments in problem solving with regards to equipment and systemsStudy and recommend techniques to improve existing products/processesMonitor and collect data regarding systems performance and report to management; utilize statistical process controls.

Identify existing and potential problems and develop resolutions.

Proactively identify problems before they occur, recommend solutions and implement changes to design and/or process as necessaryInvestigates, creates and develops new methods and protocols for project advancementIndependently performs high-level design and development of new products, equipment, and processes.

Performs mathematical modeling to simulate and verify designsInitiates, directs, and executes validation/qualification protocolsDevelop manufacturing documentation such as engineering changes, BOMs, fab drawings, flow diagrams, SOPs, Procedures, and assembly drawingsDevelop and maintain records on equipment manufacturers’ technical notices, upgrades and safety issuesMaintains accurate records & training file in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher Scientific required standards to support patent application and defense as well as other international standards (e.g.

ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.)Develop and deliver operator and maintenance training and certification.May supervise engineers in their daily design & troubleshootingMay lead project teamsInitiates, directs and executes engineering research and/or development strategies through engineering staff or individual studiesProactively identify future projects, specifications, and benefits
How will you get here?
B.S.

with greater than 10 years of experience in manufacturing, chemical engineering, chemistry, material sciences or related discipline, OR Masters+5-7 years of experience, OR Ph.D+3-4 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in computer-aided design and analysis tools including SolidWorks, JMP, MiniTab, Word and Excel/ VBAFamiliarity with design for six-sigma (DFSS) and critical parameter management (CPM) processes is desirableKnowledge of life-science research market a plus; instruments, protocols, molecular biology, and biochemistryEffective team collaboration skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate mannerAnalytical problem-solving skillsDemonstrated expertise in engineering techniques and fundamentalsExcellent time management skills and ability to work independently requiredExcellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple and changing projects and prioritiesProven ability to lead and provide work direction requiredProficient in product and process change controls and risk managementExperience in medical device ISO 13485 or FDA QSR certified industries; or an equivalent combination of training and experienceBroad experience in fabrication techniques such as molding, castings, machining, forming, bending, etc.
