Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic

Army Installation Management Command

This is a Full-time position in Fort Hood, TX posted June 25, 2021.

Summary About the Position: Fort Hood rests in the beautiful ‘hill and lake’ country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Responsibilities Perform life-cycle maintenance and servicing on cooling towers, chill water pumps, bypass valves, flow switches, and chemical feed devices.

Perform repair, overhaul, maintenance and servicing of refrigeration systems to include Refrigerated Vans (Reefer Vans), walk-in refrigerators and freezers, reach through refrigerators, refrigerator cabinets, and a variety of ice machines.

Perform work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance and servicing of heating systems to include gas fired boilers up to 2 million British Thermal Units (BTHU?s), forced air furnaces, radiant gas heaters, and electric heating systems.

Perform repair, overhaul, maintenance and service residential split systems to include fan coil units, mini splits, variable air volume systems, variable refrigerant volume systems, and direct expansion units with up to 200 tons of cooling capacity.

Perform work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance and servicing of large industrial air conditioning systems and equipment (i.e.

motors, compressors, purge units, expansion valves, solenoid valves, motor cooling systems, transducers, etc.).

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a CHLOROFLUOROCARBON CHEMICALS (CFC) TYPE UNIVERSAL as required by Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990 EPA Mandatoroy Technician Certificatoin by November 14, 1994.

NOTE: You MUST ATTACH a copy of your certification to your application package for verificaton.

Failure to include a copy of the certification will result in a rating of ineligible.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform common Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic duties.

I am skilled in recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, or making repairs on large INDUSTRIAL systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, or circulating.

I can recognize and determine the best method for correcting malfunctions, and make repairs to a variety of air conditioning and cooling unit systems.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

– Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts, positions, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.

Items weighing to exceed 75 pounds are normally lifted by more than one person, hoisted by means of mechanical devices.

Works on scaffolds and ladders, in hard to reach places.

Requires considerable standing on concrete floors, stooping, bending and working in awkward positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside, occasionally outside, and frequently in cramped and awkward positions.

Shop area is usually adequately lighted and ventilated.

Work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases.

Hearing protective devices and other protective devices and safety equipment must be worn at all times of exposure to the hazardous condition.

Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job and do not meet criteria for compensation by environmental or hazard pay.

Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

You will be required to provide proof of U.S.

Citizenship.

Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
