Electric & Instrumentation Technician Specialist- El Paso, TX

This is a Full-time position in El Paso, TX posted July 30, 2021.

Job Summary: Subject matter expert and key resource in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining a variety of moderately complex equipment to include sensors, analyzers, electrical motors, pneumatic instrumentation, etc.

to ensure optimum performance of machines and associated equipment at Veolia Borderland Plant.

Adheres to all health, safety, and compliance requirements in accordance with federal and state regulations as well as company and site safety and engineering standards.

Major objectives 1.

Subject matter expert (trade knowledge) and key resource for optimization (tools, techniques, time on tools, required parts, shop set-up, etc.) of work execution for the electrical or instrumentation activities in the Work Management Process.

How we execute the maintenance activities.


Responsible for the safe, effective, and timely execution of assigned work.


Utilizes craft specific education and experiences to provide additional expertise.


Aligns work team on craft specific education and experiences to provide alignment of experts (brother’s keeper and mentorship).


Provides accurate documentation as a result of their execution of maintenance activities (i.e.

Time Entry Sheet and History, etc.) to ensure accurate asset cost and history data collection.


Subject matter expert and key resource to provide shop floor/practical insight for improvement in the Reliability Management Process in both Maintenance strategies and new equipment design.


Provides recommendations to improve the effect of reliability activities and performance of execution activities for the future use.


Propose alternative technologies and techniques.


Propose upgrades of documentation and procedures (examples – Work activities, photos, task lists, time estimates, Bill of Materials (BOM) and Design documentation).


Propose upgrades to training and personnel development.


Provides recommendations to improve new capital installations.


Provides insight for effective design as it pertains to reliability, maintainability, and inspectability (Equipment type selection, manufacturer advantages, equipment location details, equipment fabrication requirements, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ?

Dismantling a variety of electrical and pneumatic devices to gain access to and remove defective parts followed by assembly and testing for optimum performance.


Scheduled routine and emergency maintenance on analog electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.


Provide work planning input and quotes for related parts.


Input SAP notification, run simple reports, close work orders as needed.


Performing adjustments, calibrations and servicing activities necessary to assure the proper operation of process instrumentation and control systems.


Performing operational system tests and fault diagnostics to identify and correct system failures.
Strongly preferred knowledge and abilities:


Knowledge in analog and digital system fault diagnostic techniques and procedures


Principles underlying the construction and use of scientific instruments


Electronic and electrical low voltage circuits


Methods, practices and equipment used in maintaining, repairing, testing and adjusting electromechanical, pneumatic, electronic and other types of recording, control and measuring instruments


General safe work practices


Ability to distinguish colors used in electric wiring color-coding


Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines


Knowledge and experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS)


Demonstrate good electrical troubleshooting ability plus be able to read and understand P&ID’s, loop diagrams, electrical schematics and logic diagrams


Ability to understand logic, ladder diagrams and know enough about Control Systems and Process to relate the logic to operation of the process


Knowledge of Test Equipment (Simulators, Smart Field Communicators, etc.)


Knowledge and experience with various types of transmitters (Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature, etc.) Job Requirements In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience as noted below is required:

– An Associates Technology degree in instrumentation, computers, or electronics or 24 college level semester units in instrumentation, computers or electronics AND five plus years of experience performing the work described above.

– Two years of experience performing the work described above AND a 4 year college degree in electrical engineering or related engineering degree.

Other job requirements:


Work with hand tools and test instruments


Be able to read and interpret recording charts, gauges and other instruments


Be able to work and communicate with operations and maintenance personnel


Good written and oral communication skills


Willing and able to climb ladders and work while standing on it


Stand on a platform elevated over 20 feet above the ground


Willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds without negative personal health impact


Willing and able to wear required PPE including respirators, fall arrest harness, and acid suits without negative personal health impact


Willing and able to work at heights and in confined spaces


Willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions


Ability to distinguish colors used in electric wiring color-coding


Be available to be on call on a rotation schedule with the other E&I co-workers.

When selected to be on call, employee will need to answer calls during the on-call period at nights and weekends.

Calls could be resolved over the phone or might have the need to go to the plant.


Outside of the “on call period”, the normal schedule is Monday to Friday 42 hour week.


Have a flexible schedule to work over time when needed due to plant urgencies.


Must have current and valid driver’s license.
