Kennel Technician

This is a Full-time position in Katy, TX posted March 1, 2021.


The Kennel Technician is responsible for the day-to-day care of dogs and cats that stay in our facility, including both daycare and boarding. Under the supervision of an Assistant Manager or Manager, duties include feeding, watering, exercising, kennel cleaning, yard supervision, socialization activities, and ensuring the safety for all guests (dogs and cats).


Currently, due to the COVID -19 pandemic we are curbside service only. We follow all CDC safety guidelines. Anyone who enter the building are required to wear a mask, social distance, and hand sanitize. Our employees are always required to wear a mask unless they can social distance when outside with the dogs in the Texas heat. All employees have signed and agreed to our COVID protocols. We are taking every precaution to keep our staff and clients safe.

For your safety and ours qualified applicants will first be interviewed via phone to discuss our COVID protocols and guidelines before their in-person or zoom interview.


  • Responsible for prompt and courteous customer interactions. This includes meeting/greeting clients at check-in and placing dogs and cats in kennel suites and also retrieving dogs and cats at checkout and transitioning back to owners. Goal is to exceed customer expectations.
  • Responsible for feeding and watering clients. Preparing food mixtures and administering in a safe manner to appropriate animal. Also responsible for post-feeding cleanup of bowls/facility. Responsible for checking water levels in each kennel several times/day and refilling if necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring that each kennel is cleaned and disinfected 3x/day and also periodically as needed throughout the day.
  • Responsible for yard supervision during socialization activities and playgroups. Ensure safety of all dogs being able to recognize signs of changing temperaments and/or aggressive behavior and intervene prior to and/or during scuffles between dogs.
  • Responsible for observing all animals for signs of sickness or injury and reporting to manager on duty as soon as possible.
  • Responsible for facility cleaning after each exercise/yard session. Duties include sweeping, mopping, trash removal and feces clean up.

Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.


Must be able to calmly handle situations with multiple dogs and cats. Must be able to lift up to 40 lb dogs. Outdoor and indoor monitoring with pool time will be required. Keeping the facility with a high, standard of cleanliness will be a top priority.


Leashes, 2-way radios, water jugs, mops, mop buckets, brooms, dustpans, bowls, utensils, litter box, pooper-scoopers, pails (5 gallon)


  • Combing, brush-outs and bathing of dogs
  • Overall facility cleaning above and beyond kennels (deep cleaning/”spring cleaning”)


The Kennel Technician reports directly to the general manager and indirectly to the owner of the organization. Scope of job spans from the time that an animal checks-in to the time of checkout. This position is accountable for positive owner/animal interaction at the time of check-in, accurate and appropriate feeding, watering, cleaning, exercising, socialization, and safety of all dogs during their reservation period and lastly, a positive animal transition back to the owner at checkout. This position requires many detailed tasks and multi-tasking abilities. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment with internal customers being receptionists, other kennel technicians, assistant managers and manager. External customers are defined as all existing clients and all potential customers.

Experience working with dogs and cats

ABKA Certified

Pet First Aid Certified
