Job Title: Mechanic, Transportation Primary Purpose: Perform Mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles.

Work on projects assigned Follow established procedures Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B, P, S Endorsements or must acquire within 30 days of hire Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervisionAbility to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repairAbility to lift heavy equipment and vehicle partsAbility to pass alcohol and drug testAbility to pass required bus driver safety testAbility to pass required bus driver safety trainingAcceptable driving recordAbility to operate a busASE Certification preferredMust own hand tools

Experience: Two Years’ Experience as mechanic preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehiclesPreform minor mechanical repairsHelp lead mechanic complete major repairsDo welding and minor body workService vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule.Rotate and balance tires; change oil and filter lubricate vehicle parts: inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps, and maintain all fluid levels.Maintain accurate update records of preventive maintenanceInspect vehicles and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and light; service as needed.Demonstrate process of preventive maintenance and visual inspections to mechanic helpers.Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedule Safety Operate tool, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety proceduresFollow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing etc.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediatelyHelp keep shop, equipment and tools in safe operating condition Professional Conduct: Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community and visitorsDemonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressuresDemonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situationsDemonstrates respect, courteous to peers and visitors and assist fellow workers willingly Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torch wretch, jack and lift equipment, school bus and light truck or van and other district vehicles Salary Range $18.10
– $21.80 / Per HourShift Type Full-Time
