PURPOSE OF THE JOB A key foundation of manufacturing excellence is assessing and managing glass forming properties within our manufacturing facilities.

The incumbent will be a key player in supporting the COE Hot End Team – CSB Amarillo glass forming teams in assessing and managing CSB Amarillo glass forming properties.

As a member of the COE Hot End Team based out of the Granville Science and Technology centre, this individual will work in our Amarillo Glass Reinforcement facility to support analytical sample preparation of batch and glass samples for various glass properties including inorganic chemical analysis, FeO as well as viscosity and LOI.Reports to: COE Hot End Team Leader JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, SCOPE, and CONTRIBUTIONS Participate in group safety functions (10%)Continuous commitment and attention to safety in the laboratory working environmentDedication to housekeeping, safety meetings, and leads special safety projects Metrics:Leading and participation in monthly safety meetings and safety days; housekeeping auditsAuthoring SOPs, JHAs, MOCs for new method development and implementation Sample preparation of inorganic materials for instrumental analysis (25%)Conducting samples preparation of GRMs and submission of samples to OC Science and Technology Inorganic Laboratory (GRV Lab) Metrics:Following SOPs to ensure GRMs meet the requirements for Chemical Analysis detailed methodsUtilizing the LIMS to for sample submission.

Quantitative analysis by instrumental methods, wet chemistry methods and viscometer (35%)Conducting samples preparation of glass samples for FeO/Fe2O3 analysis and Viscosity analysis.Utilizing instrumentation for the analyses of glass samples for FeO/Fe2O3 data acquisitionUtilizing instrumentation for the analyses of glass samples for viscosity data acquisitionManaging QA/QC program to assess data acquisition precision Metrics:Providing quality repeatable and reproducible testing results without errorsMaintaining instruments and equipment; identifying and purchasing consumablesOn-time testing and final reports with limited errorsProactive communication with customers of timelines and results Quantitative analysis by instrumental methods, for LOI (Loss on Ignition) and Moisture Data (20%)Conducting samples preparation of Glass Raw Materials (GRMs)Utilizing instrumentation for the analyses of GRM samples for LOI data acquisitionUtilizing instrumentation for the analyses of GRM samples for moisture data acquisitionManaging QA/QC program to assess data acquisition precision Metrics:Providing quality repeatable and reproducible testing results without errorsMaintaining instruments and equipment; identifying and purchasing consumablesOn-time testing and final reports with limited errorsProactive communication with customers of timelines and results JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:4-year college degree in a hard science, B.S.

in Chemistry preferred with at least 1 year of industrial laboratory experience3+ years of experience working in a chemical laboratory with analytical instrumentation (Carbon/Sulfur Analyzers, Titrators, TGA, Fusers, Pellet Press, AA, ICP, UV-Vis, XRF)Demonstrable knowledge of Excel and databases is required EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLSDiverse experience with analytical instrumentationSafely working with hazardous chemicalsAttention to detail while performing repetitive workProficiency in MS Office and ability to quickly learn to navigate instrument specific softwareWorking knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) preferred but not required ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICSUnwavering commitment to safetyStrong interpersonal skillsProven success at working independentlyProven multitasking and planning / organizing skillsStrong oral communication skills About Owens CorningOwens Corning is a global building and industrial materials leader.
