OneMain Financial is seeking a talented, experienced, and energetic insurance attorney with an interest in advising internal clients on all components of operation of an insurance business.

A successful candidate should also demonstrate competency in counseling business on privacy/cybersecurity and other regulatory matters impacting insurance and financial companies.
Job Description:
The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal counsel and advice to operations personnel of an insurance group of companies on a variety of complex matters with emphasis on Property/Casualty, Life, Disability and Involuntary Unemployment Insurance along with Debt Cancellation/Suspension Agreements and traditional life insurance.

Provide broad support to various functional areas in the business including Compliance, Product Management, Actuarial and Customer Service.

Keeps current on legislative issues, statutes, decisions, and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

May act as agent of corporation in various transactions.
Minimum Qualifications: 3
– 5 years of experience with insurance and commercial transactions, practicing either in-house or at a reputable law firm, or in an equivalent setting.

Juris Doctorate degree.

Admitted to a state bar and in active good standing.

Exceptional writing skills, with strong attention to detail.

Outstanding written and oral communication skills with ability to effectively explain complex legal concepts to a variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of state and federal credit insurance laws and regulations, as well as the laws and regulations governing debt cancellation /suspension agreements, and consumer finance laws.

Familiarity with legal issues arising in some or all of the following areas related to consumer financial services: credit and lending, internet marketing, technology, privacy, consumer protection, financial services, and operations.

Familiarity and prior work experience with any of the following laws and regulations: UDAAP, EFTA/Reg.

E, TILA/Reg.

Z, GLBA/Reg.

P, FCRA/Reg.

V, FDCPA, HIPAA, ECOA/Reg.

B, California Consumer Privacy Act, New York State Department of Financial Services Cybersecurity Regulation and other laws affecting consumer loan and payment products and services.

Ability to learn quickly and take ownership of projects and tasks.

Willingness to collaborate and work effectively both independently and in a team-based approach to subject matter management.

Creative thinking and strong problem-solving skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and can adapt quickly to change.

Possessing an ownership attitude for projects and tasks.
