Avionics Chief Engineer

Associates Systems LLC

This is a Full-time position in Houston, TX posted April 28, 2021.

The Avionics Chief Engineer will: 
Possess a thorough knowledge of Avionics, Electrical Power & Distribution Controls (EPDC), and EME principles.

Possess strong communication skills.  Have a good understanding of spaceflight systems safety requirements and processes Assist Payload Developers (PDs) in interpretation and implementation of Avionics, EPDC and EME safety requirements Perform technical review of spaceflight payload hardware and systems Safety Data Packages (SDPs) and Hazard Reports (HRs) for conformance to ISS specific Avionics, EPDC, and EME safety requirements.

Provide written assessment of the SDPs and HRs including identification of non-conformances.

Participate in Working groups to resolve technical issues.

Support the Chief Engineer’s Office in resolving Avionics, EPDC, EME technical issues.

Have a proactive attitude in working with a technical team to resolve technical issues, Have a good understanding of the JSC Safety community.

Perform other tasks assigned.  ​ Desired Education/Experience:

BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or a Ph.D.

degree and nine (9) years of direct engineering experience.

Experience in the design and evaluation of electrical systems including avionics, electrical power distribution and control, and radio frequency devices.

Strong ability to identify and assess hazardous conditions, controls, and verifications related to EPDC, avionics and EME systems.

Working knowledge of systems safety processes.

Familiarity with the NASA standards and payload safety requirements.

Ability to work on multiple projects, within matrix team environments, and to demanding schedules is required.

Examples of capabilities may be requested during interview process.

Requisition Preferences:
EPDC, avionics and EME experience.

System Safety experience at Johnson Space Center highly desired Degree in EE, Aerospace Engineering, or Aerospace Safety Familiarity with ISS requirements documents (e.g.

SSP 51700, SSP 51721, and SSP 30599).
