*Subject to changeWorkdays & Hours: MONDAY – FRIDAY 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM* Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSConducts general or specialized training sessions as assigned.

Develops and periodically updates required training material to support assigned courses.

Recommends and implements changes to testing and evaluation procedures, training manuals and other instructional materials.

Develop teaching aids such as handbooks, demonstration equipment, multimedia visual aids and reference materials.

Attend professional training courses intended to update or introduce new methods.

May assist in the training and orientation of new trainers.

Conduct field visits, safety observations, and interview employees, as needed, for training purposes and training development.

Driving to various City of Houston locations is an essential function of this position.

Other duties will be assigned as needed.WORKING CONDITIONSThe position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

There are no major sources of discomfort, i.E., essentially normal office environment.

This position requires occasional field work with exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions.Job Requirements:EDUCATIONRequires a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Personnel Management or a related field.EXPERIENCEOne year of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom setting and/or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners is required.Pertinent training experience on a professional level may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSRequires a valid Texas driver’s license in compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving.Prior training experience.

OSHA Outreach Trainer (General Industry and/or Construction), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Safety Trained Supervisor Construction, and/or Certified Environmental, Safety, and Health Trainer (CET).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and MS Teams.**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIREDNone,however thedepartment may administer skills assessment test.SAFETY IMPACT POSITION YesThis position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.SALARY INFORMATIONFactors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.Pay Grade 17APPLICATION PROCEDURESOnly online applications will be accepted for this City of Houston job and must be received by the Human Resources Department during posting opening and closing dates shown.
