Consumer Credit Associate – Credit Quality Assurance

As the company’s second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo’s risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline’s execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk.

The Credit Quality Assurance team reviews consumer (Credit Cards, Co-Brand, Personal Loans and Retail Services) and small business lending (Business Real Estate Finance (BREF) and Asset Secured Lending (ASL)) credit applications to provide an independent and thorough examination of the quality of credit decisions (credit originations) including the quality and accuracy of documents utilized to support credit decisions, and areas of operational risk (only to the extent that they impact the credit decision).  The team monitors the effectiveness and adherence of credit policies and procedures.  We provide actionable recommendations to emerging trends and work with our business partners to identify root cause of issues impacting credit quality.

Responsible for performing a thorough end to end examination of consumer and small business lending credit applications, processes and documentation to ensure compliance with credit policy and procedures, and sound credit decision making.  Clearly communicate deficiencies or opportunities to improve overall process to business partners including front line risk management, operations and oversight.  Analyzes risks and mitigants, and recommends solutions for issues identified.  Provides support for internal and external exam management activities and any other initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a risk role demonstrated through work or military experience; or a Master’s degree or higher in business or economics

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of credit underwriting experience
  • Quality assurance review experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of CUSP, ACAPS, or Provinir Auto Fulfillment, origination or underwriting background
  • Exposure to Wells Fargo Small Business Lending Operations systems such as: CPS, FDR, or BCS
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of underwriting policies and procedures, investor guidelines, and regulatory updates
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong research and documentation skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of Business Lending and Sales Tracking (BLAST) credit fulfillment

Other Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of consumer and/or small business lending credit underwriting experience.
  • Prior Wells Fargo consumer and/or small business lending underwriting experience.
  • Experience in a credit quality assurance review function.
  • Experience with consumer underwriting systems and tools including:  CUSP, MASK, ACAPS, CAAMS, SVP, ACES, HOGAN, CARE
  • Experience with SBL underwriting systems and tools including:  LOS, BLAST, CAAMS, SVP, AFS, ICMP, ACES, HOGAN, ACAPS, CORE, CARE, RealQuest
  • Knowledge and understanding of Wells Fargo consumer and small business lending underwriting credit policies and procedures across all SBL products.
  • Judgmental underwriting experience.

Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
