Job/Position DescriptionThe Faith-Based and Community Engagement Specialist plans, develops, implements, and monitors specialized projects and programs designed to increase the number of faith-based communities and local community groups involved in all Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) programs.

Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships between DFPS and local community groups to ensure client needs are met and to support for program goals and objectives.

Provides consultation and assistance to DFPS staff, other governmental agencies, community organizations, faith-based and community leaders, and the public.

The position will manage special projects, track and document information, write reports and respond to inquiries from the public and complete other duties as assigned.Essential Job FunctionsDevelop partnerships with civic groups, faith-based and community partners to increase community support and improve outcomes for the people who we serve-children, youth, adults and people with disabilities.

Make presentations at faith-based events and community gatherings.

Meet with individual faith leaders and community leaders.

Plan, organize, and facilitate internal and external meetings and work groups.

(35%)Participate in public awareness campaigns.

Present agency information to groups and speak publicly regarding the needs of clients.

(25%)Serve as the liaison to community and faith-based organizations, professional groups, and local public officials on all DFPS programs; serve as the primary regional contact for Faith-based and Community Engagement collaborations, and provide technical assistance, training, and policy guidance to agency staff and external stakeholders.

(20%)Recruit, onboard and support volunteers and volunteer groups.

Track the donated hours and run background checks on volunteers and interns.

(10%)Attend internal staff meetings.

Attend work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and perform other duties as assigned.

(10%)Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsN/AKnowledge Skills Abilitiesand#149;Knowledge of community resources and services available for children, vulnerable adults and familiesand#149;Skilled at public speaking and developing presentations and#149;Ability to organize, plan and set priorities in a timely manner and#149;Skilled in effective written and verbal communicationand#149;Ability to work with diverse populations including DFPS staff and leadership, media, community partners, faith communities and the general public and#149;Ability to clearly articulate specific needs for vulnerable Texans and DFPS clients and#149;Ability to develop and maintain a volunteer base for the DFPS programsInitial Screening CriteriaBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
