Fleet Planner

Greyhound

This is a Contract position in Sachse, TX posted August 24, 2021.

This position will identify the equipment needs for GLI, comparing historical and forecasted data to ensure business needs are met.  The fleet planners will review equipment on-hand frequently and make real time adjustments to the fleet as needed.  They will work with OSC, Capacity Planning and other operational groups to create and modify the fleet plan.  They will assist in securing licensing and permits for the fleet and the management of Company vehicles.

 

Key Duties:

  • Works with dispatch, garages, and field operations to identify equipment needs and priorities. Responds to unforeseen circumstances by making real-time changes to fleet plans and determines when additional resources are required to accomplish operational efficiency.
  • Controls costs by ensuring the efficient movement and positioning of equipment, manage deadhead miles and identify opportunities to generate revenue
  • Prepares historical data analysis, forecasts and other information to support the fleet plan. Provides recommendations to increase the utilization of equipment resources
  • Reviews capacity to plans to identify equipment gains and losses and then determines the best way to reposition the fleet to ensure an efficient operation. Coordinates equipment moves with dispatch and Field Management
  • Maintains fleet information in operational systems.
  • Communicates with local management to verify equipment on hand records and ensures the fleet is accounted for.
  • Creates relationships with pool and rental carriers, secures rentals and handles invoices as needed.
  • Assists in securing the necessary licenses and permits for equipment and assists in maintaining records on company owned vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • College Degree Preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in operations management within the ground transportation industry.
  • 5+ years’ experience working with or in a union environment.

  • Ability to analyze statistical information and make decisions based on the information provided.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must exercise active listening skills and have the ability to exercise considerable diplomacy, judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external customers and company departments
  • Experience working with a collective bargaining unit in order to comply with contract obligations and guidelines.
  • Must be able to take initiative and create innovative solutions to issues/problems
  • Thorough knowledge of United States geography.  Ability to work, day, evening, night shift, weekends and holidays.
