These are the same standards that have guided the Townsend Corporation for over six decades. Position DescriptionA Groundsperson is responsible for preparing the job site, load and unloading trucks with logs, brush, and debris.

This position services and maintains equipment, directs traffic, and cleans up the job site.

A Groundsperson will assist tree crews by working on the ground, handing tools and heavy materials to crew members.

Responsibilities Duties IncludeEssential Functions:Passes tools to tree crew members by acting as a general helper on the groundClears undergrowth from right-of-way by using hand tools or sawsPiles debris to clear paths and performs general clean-up of job sitesFlags traffic to protect employees and the public from injuryUses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger treesGathers brush and feeds brush into woodchippersWorks in all temperatures and weather and will be exposed to nature, such as irritating plants, insects, dust, etc.Works around falling limbs with protectionOperates the controls for winches, booms, and spray equipmentLays out materials, tools, and equipment at the worksite and furnishes to climbersFollows hand, voice, or other signals in operating associated equipmentServices gasoline, air and hand-powered tools, and other tree-related equipmentGives and relays hand signals and directs trafficDrives and operates trucks and equipment as assignedSecondary Duties:Demonstrates knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautionsDemonstrates knowledge of and ability to use lowering techniques, saw maintenance and devices as related to tree work in the fieldDemonstrates knowledge of and ability to prune various trees species properlyDemonstrates knowledge of and ability to tie basic knots, including but not limited to bowline, Blake’s hitch, taut-line hitch, and clove hitchDemonstrates knowledge of and ability to learn proper tree groundworkPerforms other duties as assigned Qualifications What You’ll Bring to the TeamMust be able to wear necessary PPE as per task assignedMust be able to drive an approved company vehicle safelyMust be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, such as rain, heat, sun, coldMust be able to traverse various terrainsMust have reliable transportation to and from the reporting locationMust have a valid Driver’s LicenseMust have an acceptable driving recordMay be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination to obtain the appropriate Commercial Driver’s LicenseMust be able to meet all physical requirements of the positionPass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulationsBe at least 18 years of age, or 21 if CDL is requiredLegally authorized to work in the United StatesPreferred:Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including but not limited to: operations of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree-related equipment Why Townsend?Townsend’s number one core value is Safety; we operate a strict Drug Free workplace.
