Head of Medicare Insurance Brokerage Business

The Head of Medicare Insurance Brokerage (Business Head) will be responsible for planning and directing the design and build of a new, innovative, and fast-paced Medicare Insurance Brokerage arm of American Advisors Group (AAG).

The Business Head will be expected to bring substantial senior leadership experience in the Medicare insurance brokerage space, having ideally previously led such a business as CEO or COO (or substantially equivalent role), or has otherwise held a next-level-down senior position with a sizeable Medicare insurance brokerage business and has demonstrated readiness to take the helm.

The AAG Medicare Insurance Brokerage business will innovate to provide a suite of products, including but not limited to the sale of Medicare Advantage, Part D, MAPD, and Medicare Supplement policies to consumers nationally via a best-in-class call-center based model.

During the design and build phase, the Business Head will oversee the development of carrier contracting, marketing, sales and an operating model that will meet all applicable business objectives and regulations for this new Medicare Insurance business and achieve core operational competencies, working in concert with members of AAG Executive Management, Risk/Compliance and Project Management staff.

Once the new business is operational, the Business Head will lead its day-to-day operations and management.

The Business Head will be accountable for financial and non-financial results (budgets and actuals) including the P&L, tracking and reporting of Key Performance Indicators, and will manage multiple levels of staff and functions / departments across the business.

The Business Head will create and maintain customer and partner relationships (including with carriers, as the licensed responsible producer) to sustain them for competitive advantage.

The Business Head will collaborate closely with executives overseeing key functional areas.

Finally, the Business Head will work closely with AAG Executive Leadership to develop the businesss future growth strategy, including the design and implementation of technology-based insurance distribution models and utilizing AAGs existing customer base to help drive growth.

Lead the strategy, design and operationalization of an innovative national Medicare Insurance Brokerage business that achieves all core operational competencies, including best-in-class customer satisfaction, policy retention, compliance and profitability.

Establish relationships with insurance carriers for the placement of the insurance products to be offered.

Serve as the designated responsible licensed insurance producer of the Medicare Insurance Brokerage.

Assure the organization has a vision and strategy plan that achieves its mission and monitor consistent and timely progress.

Develops the overall business strategy and building of the infrastructure to support the strategy.

Identify, assess, and inform Executive Leadership of internal and external issues that affect the organization from an operational as well as regulatory standpoint.

Act as a professional advisor and operational hands-on senior leader on all aspects of the organization’s activities.

Provide leadership in developing programs, distribution methods, organizational and financial plans and successfully implement such programs, methods and plans.

Foster an organizational culture that encourages and supports employee inclusion and participation.

Assure that staffing levels effectively meet the needs of the business.

Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.

Clearly communicate to staff the targeted activities of the organization, its programs, and goals.

Represent in a positive manner programs and concepts of the organization to other organizations and the public, including but not limited to current and future customers of AAG, prospective insureds and regulatory bodies.

Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the Medicare insurance field.

Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others are consistent with these standards and align with the values of the organization and AAG.

Ensure regulatory compliance with State and Federal regulations and maintain knowledge of legal landscape, including regulatory changes.

Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities with an eye on incorporating the latest trends in technological marketing and distribution methods.

Specific skills/ knowledge needed to perform job: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skills used to influence the behavior of others across a highly matrixed organization.

Proven experience as a business and operations strategist and operational leader in the Medicare insurance industry with an understanding of the regulatory landscape.

Demonstrated competency in strategic planning and delivery.

Proven track record of meeting business goals via driving disciplined, fact-based decisions and executing with discipline and urgency.

Demonstrated strong financial acumen and analytical skills, including comfort with P&L development, review and reconciliation.

Demonstrated success building relationships with external executives and stakeholders.

Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity.

A strong ethical and moral compass, with a focus on doing the right thing for seniors and other constituents.

Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Education/Certification/License Requirements BS/BA in Business Administration or relevant field; MS/MBA is a plus Licensed to sell Medicare-related insurance policies in one or more states (and willingness to obtain licenses in states where a license is not currently held), in the appropriate lines of insurance to act as the businesss Designated Responsible Licensed Producer under applicable state insurance licensing laws Working Experience 10 years of progressive management experience in leading complex Medicare insurance related operations, including experience with a demonstrated track record of superior operating and financial performance along with a record of growing profitable operations that produce quality outcomes.

Solid understanding of Medicare insurance regulations, compliance, sales tactics, brokerage businesses, licensing and insurance carrier contracting/incentives/relationships.
