is seeking IT Specialist notional candidates for the US Marshals Service (USMS), located in Tomball, Texas.

USMS defends the Constitution of the United States through protection of the judiciary and the judicial process.

The USMS Tactical Operations Division (TOD), Office of Strategic Technology (OST), is responsible for providing a stable, secure, and resilient communication infrastructure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Manage the full range of Information Technology (IT) functions for the assigned office, to include: analyzing the IT requirements necessary to meet user needs within the assigned area of responsibility; planning, designing, developing, and implementing secure, cost-effective IT solutions; operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining IT systems; and retiring and properly disposing of IT systems that have reached the end of their useful life.* Work with other members of other Federal departments, both within and outside DOJ, to maintain any wired and wireless IT infrastructure which supports land mobile radio communications.* Work closely with district/division managers, Systems administrators, and ITD, to ensure that IT is implemented consistently throughout agency District(s)/Division(s); provide timely and satisfactory customer support to District/Division personnel and quickly resolve and identify problems.* Participate in meetings and have frequent communications with USMS management and IT personnel in order to keep the District(s)/Divisions(s) informed of IT plans and projects.

Involved with operations in the districts/divisions; determines what IT can benefit the district/division, informs USMS management of plans, and makes recommendations.* First point of contact for the District/Division in resolving technical issues.

If necessary, USMS management assists in pursuing a solution with USMS Headquarters personnel or other partner agencies.

Use experience gained through supporting Districts/Divisions to help USMS design effective information systems for the districts/divisions.* Provide assistance on specific functional issues.* Establish and maintain liaison with officials of other Federal, state, and local agencies.* Ensure that IT objectives are successfully achieved, as directed by USMS; promptly apprise USMS management and affected peers/users of potential or actual problems; and recommend/take appropriate courses of action.* Leads/participate in special projects, as directed by the COR.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES* Must be authorized to work in the US.* Must have a Top Secret (TS) security clearance or be able to obtain one in order to work in a high-security environment and observe a combination of USMS security procedures.* A minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience.* Applied knowledge of software and systems development life cycles, including performance measurement principles and methods, and ensuring incorporation of appropriate security measures throughout life cycle.* Applied knowledge of practices, methods, and techniques to install, maintain, integrate, and support IT hardware, software, and services; and to develop improvements of work methods for solving problems related to IT systems.* Applied knowledge of standard operating systems, hardware and software suite (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Unix, Word Perfect, Microsoft Office, Informix, Oracle).* Applied knowledge of telecommunications, including local and wide area networking, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and web based technologies (e.g., HTML, XML, scripting languages such as PHP and Perl).* Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of VMware-based solutions in high availability environments.* Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, operating, and troubleshooting high availability routed and switched networks.* Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, operating, and troubleshooting firewall, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) solutions in high availability networks.* Applied knowledge of methods, practices, and tools for troubleshooting, recovery, adjusting, modifying, and improving IT systems in order to provide (1) technically sound advice and assistance to solve complex problems and (2) support.* Applied knowledge of data processing documentation procedures, standard data elements and codes, fact-finding approaches, decision logic tables, and structured analysis and design methodologies.* Demonstrated experience with programming and installing IP video cameras and systems.* Applied knowledge and/or certifications in fiber optic connections and installations.* Applied knowledge of peripheral equipment to include printers, modems, and CD-ROM’s.* Applied knowledge of IT security policies.* Ability to prepare written materials.* Ability to communicate effectively orally.* Ability to work well with others, often in an inter-agency or inter-Departmental environment.
