GEO Corrections & Detentions (A GEO Company)

This is a Full-time position in Conroe, TX posted August 3, 2021.

Under the direction of the Captain, this position performs moderately complex work by supervising an assigned group of Corrections Officers charged with providing for the care and custody of inmates.

Typical supervisory work includes, but is not limited to, scheduling, mentoring, training, disciplining, and ensuring the safety Corrections Officers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises, mentors, trains, and ensures the safety of an assigned group of Corrections Officers.

Schedules Corrections Officers and assists management in formulating and enforcing of facility policies.

In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, functions as the primary supervisor.

Provides first-level evaluation of subordinate Corrections Officers.

Initiates corrective action plans to address substandard performance.

Verifies Corrections Officers’ understanding of post orders through direct observation and provides training and guidance as necessary.

Completes shift rosters and assigns subordinate staff to duty posts, schedules subordinate employee work in “Kronos”, conducts shift briefings, inspects subordinate staff for compliance with dress code standards, and relays pertinent information from the unit administration to the assigned staff.

Conducts safety training and constantly monitors the facility for safety violations or unsafe conditions and initiates immediate corrective action as required.

Enforces policies and procedures in a fair and equitable manner.

Practices progressive discipline when attempting to alter inappropriate behavior by subordinate.

Maintains staff contact logs and initiates formal disciplinary action for subordinate staff as required.

Conducts continual security inspections of the facility to ensure that assigned staff is completing tasks in accordance with standards and acceptable correctional practice.

Deploys staff to operational areas as required by staffing plan and effective correctional practice.

Oversees and verifies that all required security functions (searches, counts, movements, patrols, meal procedures, etc.) are completed in according to the building schedule.

May redeploy assigned staff as needed to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with policy.

Responds to emergency situations within the facility.

Supervises the application of non spontaneous “Use of Force” (UOF) to ensure compliance with all applicable guidelines.

Provides the initial review of UOF paperwork completed by staff.  Ensures adherence to the facility schedules and that all offender activities occur as scheduled.

Serves as liaison for the unit administration in the resolution of routine offender complaints.

Intervenes in confrontations between staff and inmates that have the potential of escalating if left unaddressed.

Prepares written reports as required and verbally reports all incidents of a serious or unusual nature to the Shift Supervisor, Chief of Security or Duty Warden.

Conducts formal and informal investigations of alleged staff and offender misconduct.

Supervises and assists subordinates tasked with the preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements High School diploma or GED certificate.

Must meet any state specific education or certificate requirements.

Completion of approved Correctional Officer training program resulting in a certificate of satisfactory completion.

Must obtain and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and firearms.

Must be 21 yrs of age.

One (1) year full time wage earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience.

Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations that impact the effective operations of a facility.

Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and other communication and the ability to interpret and apply appropriate action based on them.

Ability to coordinate staffing requirements for security supervisors and officers.

Ability to make and implement decisions without assistance.

Ability to give instructions in a manner that provides teamwork and a cooperative spirit.

Ability to maintain high tolerance to mental stress.

Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex instructions.

Ability to work in varying climatic conditions.

Ability to gain proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and software related to report writing, employee scheduling and information submission to the facility’s computer system.

Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24 hour period.
