OverviewSummary:Apply measurement science, mathematics, and physics to develop, document, and maintain calibration systems, procedures, methods, measurement uncertainties, and validation of measurement capabilities for inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) across the Dimensional, Electrical, Physical, Life Science, and Reference-Level Metrology Categories based on analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.

Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures.

Use statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes.

Recommend calibration standards and IM&TE.

Maintain calibration laboratory and/or departmental accreditation, and quality systems.

Perform laboratory and/or departmental administration and management.ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Ensure that all calibration sites are performing all calibration services in compliance with Transcat policies and procedures through internal audits and review of completed processes, either at the site or via on-line documentation.Ensure that all calibration technicians are properly trained, tested and qualified to perform appropriate calibrations based on skill level and expertise through review of records, DOE’s, interviews and proficiency testing results.Provide guidance to laboratory managers in evaluation of lab personnel’s technical skill levels and makes recommendations on upgrading of, or addition to, existing skill sets within the labs to meet and/or maintain accreditation requirements.Perform the function of in-house Technical Calibration Services Expert, and the “go-to-person” for all technical related problems and questions that require answers and solutions above and beyond the scope of calibration technicians.Ensure the integrity of the Data Sheet System.

Continually research, analyze and make appropriate recommendations in conjunction with the appropriate operations personnel, and the Information Technology (IT) department for viable automation of calibration.Directly involved with the ISO 17025 accreditation process in each Transcat lab.

This includes the review of individual laboratory’s technical aspects, including scope, uncertainty budgets, design of experiments (DOE’s) to prove out uncertainties, ensure technician competence and perform remedial training and testing, as required.Assist with the Transcat Consulting business segment, as needed, to perform audits, training, and other Metrology consultation requirements for Transcat clients.Provide support and expertise to sales personnel for large customers, trade shows and RFQ opportunitiesAct as the Deputy Technical ManagerThis is an additional duty and an appointed position.

The appointee needs a working knowledge of the overall accreditation requirements and applicable standards.

The Deputy must be able to fulfill the basic responsibilities of the Manager of Metrology with regards to internal and external audits, and any internal or external technical issues, questions or decisions, if, at any time, the Manager is unable or unavailable to perform these functionsQualificationsEducation and/or Experience:Bachelor’s degree (B.

A.) from four-year college or university; or five to eight years related experience and/or PMEL training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Language Skills:Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Mathematical Skills:Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of uncertainty calculation.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to interpret Metrology documents such as ISO/IEC 17025, JCGM 106, ILAC-G8, Ability:Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
