Paralegal & Compliance Investigator

Touro College New York

This is a Contract position in Dallas, TX posted August 30, 2021.

Overview: This position is responsible for office operations and other activities of the department.

Understands the departments operational goals and has an impact on the level of understanding for team members.

Areas of office management responsibility include front office administration, mail and production services, file management, and administrative support covering a wide range of services.

This position also requires a high level of initiative, the ability to multi-task and work independently, and customer-service skills, as well as demonstrated skills in managing litigation.This individual will also support for regulatory compliance activities at the Touro College and University System (College or Institution) including, but not limited to, compliance efforts with regard to Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) as amended by the Violence Against Women Act and the Campus SaVE Act.The ideal candidate will have advanced document management and case organization skills and excellent attention to detail.

Strong knowledge of e-discovery and excellent computer literacy required.

Must be willing to obtain paralegal certificate within eighteen months of hire.This individual shall report directly to the Director of Regulatory Compliance and Financial Aid.

Responsibilities: Assists in the delivery of legal services for the department, including but not limited to: Manages all day-to-day activities of the office including setting up appointments, providing general administrative and clerical support, coordinating travel arrangements, ordering office supplies.

Responsible for typing and preparing memos, letters, flyers, and other written documents Prepares requisitions for the office, follows up on difficulties associated with their processing; keeps track of all orders made by the office; prepares expense reports Processes all purchase orders and invoices for Department and assist in keeping the department in line with budget.

Creates and maintains files, and follows up to locate any missing documents Investigating the facts and circumstances of Compliance complaints, primarily through internal contacts and resources to chronicle events and report possible solutions.

Maintains forms required by local, state and federal agencies Analyze employment-related and student-related complaints from divisions, departments and sites Conducting inquiries and prepare questions for investigation interviews Evaluate all investigation material submitted and request any other documentary evidence that the investigator deems relevant to the allegations.

Interviewing all relevant parties.

Organizing all documentary evidence in a case file.

Drafting responses and collecting documents in response to Commission on Human Rights, EEOC and Division of Human Rights complaints.

Research information relating to cases, for court documents, and Lexis-Nexis for other legal materials (cases, articles, etc.).

Assist with the coordination of the Colleges compliance with Title IX including the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate policies, procedures and practices designed to comply with federal and state legislation, regulation, and case law requiring the prompt and equitable resolution of all complaints pursuant to Title IX.

Assist the Title IX Coordinator and provide technical assistance for Title IX initiatives across the College and its several campuses including consulting with relevant offices, departments groups and senior personnel for the purpose of advising, clarifying and identifying necessary action to eliminate sex and/or gender-based discrimination in all educational programs and activities, to ensure that access to facilities, opportunities, and resources is gender equitable throughout the College system.

Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk at the College; develop/implement corrective action plans that suit the culture of the college and respect the principles of shared governance; and provide general guidance and education on how to avoid such vulnerabilities in the future Collaborate with a wide range of College administrators, staff, and faculty to increase awareness of the importance of compliance at the College and to effectuate the compliance program Conduct trainings on a variety of compliance-related topics Establish a culture, organizational approach and structure, along with policies, procedures and training programs that promote excellent student services and attract and provide a satisfying work environment for quality staff in these areas.

As needed, prepare requisitions for the office, follows up on difficulties associated with their processing; keeps track of all orders made by the office; prepares expense reports Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Chief Compliance Officer and Director of Regulatory Compliance Qualifications: Bachelors degree and/or Paralegal certificate At least 1-3 years of relevant work experience.

Prior Title IX experience preferred.
