Project Estimator

General Construction Group is looking for a Project Estimator for our Houston office.

Job duties will include but not be limited to the following:

Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for project estimating, cost control and scheduling activities including site preparation, piling, mechanical and electrical installation, etc.

on major project on day to day basis.

· Develop estimates of construction direct and indirect costs including labor, materials, equipment forecasts and craft manpower projections.

· Must have commercial and business awareness and cost analysis ability in change order review and approval.

· Analyze specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material or sample layouts, and calculates costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data.

· Prepare cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.

· Provide independent estimates, constructability reviews, value engineering, risk analysis, and reviews/negotiates contractor estimates and change orders.
Develop man-hour/fee proposals for projects.

Prepare and maintain historical cost data and estimating metrics.

· Review contractor proposal against budget.

Prepares trend analysis and reports to senior project management.
Participate and promote Zero Accident HSE work culture.

Enforces HSES regulations and adheres to current codes and standards.

Provide necessary project specific and group reports as requested.

Ensure that work being performed is within scope of services and within budget.

· Support BD department to prepare proposal and present to Client for business development purpose.
Responsible for on-the-job training of new employees.

Requirements:
Ability to read construction drawings, e.g.

P&ID drawings.

Extensive knowledge and experience in EPC lump sum estimating practices and methods, including demonstrated ability to organize, direct, perform, review and present cost estimating products with a minimum of supervision.

Demonstrated thorough understanding of established cost index, escalation calculations, and projections.

Knowledge of cost engineering and estimating industry standards for administrative and supervisory procedures and practices.

Detailed engineering design and construction experience.

Team player with the ability to build rapport including trust and confidence with all personnel involved.

Professional Certification : Certified Cost Control/Estimator/Scheduler Highly Desirable.

Experience : Five (5) to fifteen (15) years in project construction.

Education: BS or MS of Engineering discipline required, construction management or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Intermediate to advanced computer hardware/ software literacy.

Knowledge of electrical, process, mechanical, HVAC and instrumentation industries desirable (engineering, fabrication, testing, installation and start-up).

All aspects of the proposal process; teaming agreement negotiation, pricing and final prep.

Experience with both lump sum, time and material and cost reimbursable projects.
