Referral Coordinator

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for answering calls and scheduling physician appointments as well as scheduling physician to physician referrals in an efficient and timely manner. Additional responsibilities include making outbound calls to schedule appointments which include scanning, tracking, adding patients to the appointment waitlist, and working all incoming referrals according to urgency and established timelines. To schedule medical appointments and diagnostic services from providers’ offices and patients that arrives in the call center via phone or fax.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Track incoming physician referrals by urgency and work them accordingly in compliance with established timelines
  • Work batch files, scan, print, and schedule medical and diagnostic services appointments when requested by patients and doctors’ offices
  • Work daily physician reports for pending appointments as well as following up with patients that have been added to the Referral Wait List
  • Assist Patient Services Representatives with all related duties; act as backups during high volume phone call days
  • For bilingual speaking employees, act as a translator to assist patients and others that may have a need

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor’s diagnosis of disease
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and other colleagues
  • Ability to multi-task, detail-oriented with strong time management skills
  • High level of professional integrity and confidentiality

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel and to reach with hands and arms
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, see, speak, and hear
  • The employee is occasionally required to kneel, climb, or balance
  • The employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds and rarely lift more than 25 pounds
