Shop Foreman/Safety Officer

Williamson County

This is a Full-time position in Georgetown, TX posted April 24, 2021.

JOB SUMMARY* Ensures that both preventative and routine equipment maintenance activities are performed on a regular basis to assist with and support daily park operations for the Parks Department.* Maintains the department’s equipment and supplies in a state of operating excellence so they do not present any problems, interruptions, or delays to park operations.* Administers the Parks Department Safety Program to ensure a safe recreational environment for staff, facilities, operations, and the general public.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED* Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.* Uses creative and resourceful means to determine where and how certain commodities will be stored and easily retrieved.* Interacts and communicates effectively and professionally with the public, vendors, park staff, and other County staff.* Prepares written reports as directed/requested.* Assists in budget preparation, monitors account expenses and makes recommendations regarding equipment maintenance, parts, supplies, and safety.* Possesses a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures.* Assist Operations Managers in developing and implementing needed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).* Conducts playground equipment safety inspections.* Monitors and implements safety practices and procedures as they relate to workers’ performance, equipment, structures, playgrounds, trails, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and custodial materials.* Assists with training employees on proper orientation and safe operation of equipment.* Monitors and seeks (via supervisory chain of command) adherence to all housekeeping and safety standards.* Observes work in progress and ensures that proper safety equipment is worn and procedures are followed.* Conductsscheduled and unscheduled inspections of Park site facilities and locations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations and guidelines.* Notifies Park management regarding violations of safety regulations and codes; makes recommendations for corrections; follows-up to ensure that violations have been corrected.* Analyzes hazards and develops risk assessments for both public areas and work sites; develop policies, plans and procedures to minimize risk to the Park Employees and public.* Investigates safety and health complaints submitted by Park management, employees, and the public; evaluate concerns and alternatives, resolve complaints and make recommendations to management for corrective action, as required.* Conducts and/or coordinates Park employee training, including classroom lectures, demonstrations, hands-on instruction and tailgate seminars.* Maintains/Manages accurate records and files relating to safety issues, inventories, incident reports and compliance audits; prepares a variety of narrative and statistical reports, correspondence, and other written materials.* Expected to be an active, productive member of the work team.* Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a County or personal motor vehicle to attend meetings and visit work sites as required.* Ensures compliance with current health and safety regulations and related legislation.* Knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) principles and practices.* Must possess outstanding organizational skills.* Demonstrates effective and excellent negotiation, communications and interpersonal skills.* Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills.* Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures.* Performs related special projects and assists staff department wide as assigned.* The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:* Ability to climb ladders, bend, crawl and maneuver in and around all kinds of equipment.* Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds to waist height.* Clearly and effectively communicates as necessary to conduct daily operations using speech in person or via telephone, typing in email or handwritten documents.* Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear and perform continual data entry at a computer keyboard.* Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects.* Requires the ability to see and hear, as well as perceive colors.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:* Williamson County has adopted a Tobacco-Free Workplace policy.

Williamson County and Cities Health District offers a smoking cessation program, free to all employees and spouses.* Works in all kinds of indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.* Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, bacteria, fungus and high noise levels must be expected.* The following equipment (not all inclusive) may be used and maintained: pick-up trucks, trailers, tractors, front end loaders, front deck mowers, push mowers, string trimmers, chain saws, pruning saws, ladders, shovels, rakes, hoses, paint stripers, weed sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, mops, brooms paint brushes, forklifts, skid steers, hand trucks, welders, cutting torches, grinders, hand and power tools, etc.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS* High School Degree or GED is required for this position.* Two (2) years maintenance shop experience, landscaping, horticulture, custodial maintenance, repair of park structures and buildings, grounds and equipment, trails, playgrounds.* Must possess a current Texas Class “C” Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a valid Texas Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of employment date.* Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.* Must have current working knowledge related to use, general care of park maintenance and support equipment.* Must hold a current Playground Safety Inspector Certification (CPSI) or be able to obtain within one (1) year.* Ability to type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency.* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.EMPLOYMENT TESTING:* Employment is contingent upon post-offer, pre-employment criminal background investigations.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:* Prior experience related to park and/or recreational facility maintenance is desirable.IRREGULARHOURS:* Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.
