We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program – the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon’s surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind’s understanding of the origins of our solar system.
What you’ll do all day

  • Support Avionics Subsystem development for future Moon operations.
  • Provide oversight and application for Engineering Development Unit testing and flight hardware qualification.
  • Define effective and efficient I&T processes to ensure successful integration, test, and delivery of Avionics deliverables.
  • Oversee and develop procedures, work instructions, and process flows.
  • Develop test scripts, maintain test logs and generate test reports.
  • Maintain and ensure baseline test configuration and document any configuration changes.
  • Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
  • Gather requirements verification evidence from multiple sources across the VIPER test team.
  • Work in a team environment and report to Avionics Subsystem Lead for technical support, task assignment, and processes.
  • Demonstrate day-to-day flexibility in working issues, concerns, and ensuring element success.
  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures with hardware.
  • Interface frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA management, and operational customers.
  • Work with team members to identify risks, develop risk statements, and plan risk responses.
  • Support the Avionics Subsystem Lead in the development and maintenance of the schedule, tracking progress and reporting completion status.
  • Monitor scheduled deliverables against established plans.
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Perform other tasks assigned.

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • BS degree in engineering or computer science from an accredited school and fourteen (14) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited school and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited school and zero (7) years of related experience.
  • Experience with leading small teams of software developers and engineers.
  • Experience with planning and executing software development processes and tasks.
  • Experience developing software across the full development life cycle.
  • Software project management.
  • Proficiency with C/C++ coding.
  • Proficiency with Linux.
  • Experience with RTOS.
  • Experience with programming embedded microcontrollers.
  • Device driver programming.
  • Experience with Agile Development tools and processes.
  • Experience with hardware/software Integration.
  • Experience with software configuration management/version control.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, Eclipse, Atmel Studio, Code Composer Studio.
  • Experience with I2C, SPI, USB, RS232, RS485.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, NTP.
  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN.

  • NASA software and systems development requirements and standards, including NPR 7150 NASA Software Engineering Requirements.
  • DO178 Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification.
  • AS9100
