The Position

This role will be responsible for the overall strategy and Planning, technology delivery and execution for each of the Line of Business CROs. This role will own and drive the cross divisional Risk Management Technology Strategy across each of the CRO functions with alignment to broader Risk Technology strategy.  This requires a significant breath of SME knowledge, as it will cover the technical integrated strategy across all Risk types, partnering with Risk business and CRO teams. This role requires partnering with peer technology team to drive cohesive technology strategy and execution. This includes direct interface with the senior leadership, such as Head of each Risk types, Control Executives and CIOs/Tech Senior Executives.  Role requires thought leadership and effective ability to shape and influence strategy adaptation and technology delivery and execution.   In addition, the position requires strong communication and leadership skills in order manage multiple stakeholders and to ensure alignment with program deliverables, target outputs and meeting all regulatory/audit obligations.  

Specifically the leader will be accountable for partnering with multiple leadership stakeholders across Corporate Risk, Control Executive teams to construct and execute on strategic priorities.  These priorities will focus on solutions for the management of information and processes in the support of strong Risk management.  This person will be accountable for the technology systems and will lead the technology teams to build safe and sound client-centric solutions for all CRO functions.  This person will be responsible for several strategic vendor relationships, will be accountable for financial objectives, Technology risk management and remediation with a focus on continuous improvement. This role will also oversee the allocation of people and financial resources to ensure efficient and effective execution aligned with strategic objectives.


  • Developing and executing a multiyear technology strategy supporting CRO teams
  • Running a best in class technology environment ensuring critical business deliverables are met in a predictable and seamless way
  • Engage with Risk leadership ensuring technology strategy and investment is in line with business function objectives. Also ensure technology decisions are evaluated and assesses in line with technology industry standards including build vs buy decisions
  • Manage a complex Risk technology portfolio with diverse underlying technology architectures including legacy and cutting edge technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Cloud computing
  • Building and leading high performing teams.   Assess current staff capabilities, identify talent gaps, and execute talent management actions aligned with human capital strategy
  • Provide senior technology perspective on industry trends, competitive landscape and market/regulatory changes leveraging industry contacts, vendors, and strategic technology partner relationships
  • Develop the technical integrated target strategy for CRO functions in alignment with broader Risk technology strategy. This includes the multi-year roadmap to achieve the stated strategic objectives and execution against the strategy
  • Demonstrate business partner value by understanding the business, advocating technology solutions to advance business initiatives, incorporating internal / external customer views, and managing key financial indicators to the benefit of Well Fargo’s shareholders
  • Establishing and maintaining a profile as a senior technology leader both inside and outside the firm
  • Serves as a role model demonstrating strong commitment to diversity & inclusion and Wells Fargo’s culture and core values

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 8+ years of experience with strategic planning in technology
  • 8+ years of experience with managing software development projects through complete release cycles
  • 8+ years of leadership and people management experience in a large-scale technology environment

Desired Qualifications

  • A Masters degree or higher in computer science or engineering
  • 8+ years of experience with Agile practices
  • 5+ years of experience with systems architecture and design
  • 5+ years of experience with modern software engineering technologies and tool sets
  • 3+ years of managing a 100+ FTE engineering organization

Other Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with large data and analytic environments
  • 3+ years of managing a large engineering organization
  • 5+ years of executive leadership experience managing a complex technology organization of large scale including senior managers, managers, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations
  • 10+ years of technology leadership experience in one or more of these domains – Credit Risk, Market Risk, Financial Risk
  • 10+ years of experience leading highly technical teams and deliverables across diverse application technology environments
  • Demonstrated prior experiences in effective engagement with internal senior leadership and external regulators
  • Strong relevant prior experiences in effective management of technology financials and risk
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargo’s size, scale and complexity
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of technology efforts across several major lines of business and effectively partner/influence at the senior executive level
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment
  • Ability to develop technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, enterprise and WFT strategies
  • Proven experience as a highly effective leader with credibility from demonstrating strong business and technology acumen
