Registered Respiratory Therapist (6926)

Nacogdoches County Hospital

This is a Contract position in Garland, TX posted July 24, 2021.

High School Diploma; Successful completion of two years of course work in respiratory therapy or physiology.

Six months working experience plus clinical experience while in school.

Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care; Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care; Licensed by the Texas Medical Board; CPR Certification.

Knowledge of variety of electromechanical respiration equipment, medical gases, aerosolized drugs, Electrocardiograms, holter monitor recorders, arterial blood gas drawing and analysis, calibration and quality control of blood gas, emergency resuscitation, cleaning and sterilization of equipment.

Skilled in all electromechanical respiration equipment, administration of medical gases and aerosolized drugs, EKG’s, holter monitoring equipment, drawing and analyzing arterial blood gases, calibration and quality control of blood gas analyzers, cleaning and sterilization of equipment, CPR and emergency resuscitation, patient education, bedside PFTs.

Ability to operate all electromechanical respiration equipment.

Administer medical gases and aerosolized drugs.

Hook up and run holter monitors, draw and analyze arterial blood gases, calibrate and effectively run quality control of blood gas analyzers.

Educate patient and family members.

Working knowledge of cleaning and sterilization of equipment.

Correctly and completely document and carry out physician orders, troubleshoot equipment.

Able to document on daily work sheets all work completely and equipment change out and/or replacement.

Must be able to react fast and accurately.

Must be able to rapidly assist patient, i.e.

stairs.

Job Summary Sets up a variety of electromechanical respiration equipment to obtain data relative to functioning of patient needing such assistance, and to administer prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosolized drugs to patients with respiratory disorders.

Reviews physician’s request to determine requirements for tests and/or treatments.

2.

Assists medical nursing staffs as requested, including introduction of respiratory care modalities.

3.

Demonstrates proficiency in ventilatory care.

Obtain arterial blood gas samples and running samples.

4.

Hand Held Aerosol Treatments.

Obtain and administer medication, incentive spirometry, and aerosol therapy.

5.

Set up all types of oxygen delivery appliances, basic breathing exercises, postural drainage techniques, emergency procedures for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and pulse oximetry.

6.

Transportation of patients to various departments in the hospital with their oxygen setups.

7.

Responsible for oxygen rounds.

8.

Responsible for calibration and quality control of arterial blood gas analyzer.

9.

Responsible for routine maintenance on all equipment within the department.

10.

Maintains departmental records and files, including charges for services rendered by Cardiopulmonary and assuring that all patient records are kept up-to-date.

11.

Records EKG’s according to established policies and procedures.

12.

Responsibilities related Holter Monitor Recorders.

13.

Responsibilities related to scheduling outpatient procedures.

14.

Responsible for accurate patient and departmental charting.

15.

Performs all therapeutic modalities in the Nursery: a.

Pediatric arterial punctures.

b.

Mechanical ventilation.

c.

Aerosol and humidity therapy.

d.

Medical gas therapy.

e.

Pulse oximetry.

16.

Assists with the education of rehabilitation patients.

17.

Capable of maintaining and troubleshooting all respiratory therapy equipment.

18.

Reports to work at the beginning of shift and makes assignments.

19.

Supervisor will take a lighter assignment load in order to address/handle any problems that may arise during shift.

20.

If any person calls in sick or has to leave early and cannot come to work or stay at work, the Supervisor should locate a replacement.

21.

Supports Continuous Quality Improvement efforts.
