Teacher Development Specialist – Promise Community School District

The teacher development specialist (TDS) plays a critical role in supporting academic initiatives to develop teachers’ understanding in curriculum and instruction and to achieve student outcomes in early childhood grade levels.

The day-to-day work will be developed with the Teacher Development Officer (TDO) or Director and may include curriculum and assessment work, planning and executing teacher trainings in a variety of topics, coaching teachers, and other tasks as assigned.JOB SUMMARY:The specialist plays a critical role in supporting the academic initiatives to develop teachers’ understanding in curriculum and instruction and to achieve student outcomes in early childhood grade levels.

The day-to-day work will be developed with the TDO or Director and may include curriculum and assessments work, planning and executing teacher trainings in a variety of topics, coaching teachers, and other tasks as assigned by the TDO or Director.The successful individual is an independent thinker, a data wizard and effective communicator who is constantly thinking about how to maximize learning for children and develop teacher capacity.

The specialist will work with the TDO or Director to create and implement professional development to address instructional gaps across the district based on analysis and tracking of data; will apply professional expertise and knowledge of research-based best practices to provide direction, support, mentoring and training to teaching and other program staff; and will collaborate with other members of the instructional leadership team as needed.

With a collaborative and hands on approach, the TDOor Director t will work directly with staff and school leadership to promote developmentally-appropriate instruction individualized to each child and family.

The ECE specialist may support teachers from across 2 elementary schools and 1 pre-k center across Houston.

The ECE specialist reports directly to the Teacher Development Officer or Director to fulfill their responsibilities and is a part of the District Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Support the Promise Community Charter School vision and implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment and related professional development to support quality curriculum, instruction and assessment.Ensure the highest standards of education are delivered in the classroom through effective training methods including; lesson planning, data evaluation and reporting, modeling, or co-teaching.Serve as a teaching ‘coach’ to district mentor teachers and instructional faculty in curriculum and assessments and other areas of expertise.Plan and lead staff and curriculum development with direction from the TDO of ECE based on student assessment data, application of research and district studies to improve the content, sequence and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.Support in summer academic and training programs.Be a part of the ECE team to develop unique and novel solutions to problems within the ECE cohort that support student achievement, classroom instruction, and are aligned to research-based practices.Other tasks as assigned by the TDO of ECE.
