This role will be part of the US smartphone product planning group and tasked to drive product vision and strategy for advanced planning work for the US market. In addition, the individual will support the US-based SEA mobile team (Product Business and Strategy Team), carriers & retail accounts, mobile marketing and Korea-based mobile product planning & strategy organization.

As Director, Product Planning, you will lead the upcoming smartphone product planning and development to drive a higher market share and installment. Our flagship smartphone is our core product offerings. You will help grow our market further by setting up future flagship portfolios and differentiated features of flagship products in the competitive market.

You will be responsible for leading the market narrative and competitor sensing to propose the early hypothesis of the portfolio roadmap to our executive teams and daily working partners in the Korea-based product planning team. In addition, you will be responsible for leading the horizontal, cross-product teams in the US and Korea to ensure alignment and execution, owning product and insight development from ideation through commercial launch, while working with other product planners and product managers
.
Through your leadership, you will leverage your technical and market expertise to identify opportunities across the product area with a keen focus on product innovation, driving product strategy, and execution.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Define upcoming product vision and strategy for US Flagship smartphone, analyzing industry trends to drive innovation, designing and leading a multi-year roadmap, balancing short and long-term goals of US mobile business objective
  • Own cross-functional product development process with HQ product planning team from product inception to development investment approval
  • Drive and own robust sensing of the market, product, and consumers/customers, with analytic approach and insight development
  • Partner closely Korea based product planning & strategy team, R&D and other US task holders to drive product and sell-out success
  • Attract, develop and retain a high performing team of product planners

Job Requirements:

  • Requires BA Degree plus a minimum of 15 years relevant field experience in mobile product, product development, product engineering, or strategy/innovation consulting
  • Advanced Technical degree or MBA is a plus
  • Experience leading and motivating teams towards business goals
  • Experience working in a mobile or technology setting, bringing both demonstrated expertise in product development, competitive sensing and analysis, and technology market tracking
  • Narrative and storytelling experiences that propel usage, adoption and market momentum
  • Ability to use a combined creative and analytical approach to technical and business issue
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate with both technical and business expert

Skills and Qualifications

Necessary Skills & Attributes:

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all assigned levels within and outside the company.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize multiple assignments and projects.
  • Review detailed product development, marketing documents and media materials as needed.
  • Demonstrated competency in both oral and written communication modes for both internal and external personnel at various levels.
  • Work independently and in a team environment in order to achieve customer business objectives, personal and team goals and complete assignments within established time frames and specifications. 
  • The ability to develop tasks and work assignments, based on sometime vaguely defined objectives.

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions:

  • The position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment.
  • Operate a computer keyboard and view a video display terminal 50% of work time, including prolonged periods of time. 
  • The movement and transportation of equipment, most of the time under 25 pounds.
  • Performs work under time schedules and stresses which are normally periodic or cyclical, including time sensitive job stress, fatigue, unpaid over-time, intellectual challenge, constant technical data feedback, language barriers, and business management stress.
  • Machines, tools, equipment, and work aids representative and commonly associated with PCs, printers, and office work areas.
  • Frequently works additional hours beyond normal schedule.
  • Under very little direct supervision with a high level of responsibility to apply general policies and guidelines where decisions are seldom monitored and consequences of decisions adversely affect operating results and management decisions. Complete access to confidential company data where disclosure may jeopardize the company’s competitive position.
