Manager, GSM Cost Strategy & Analytics

Cisco Systems, Inc.

This is a Full-time position in Austin, TX posted March 4, 2021.

What You’ll Do

As the leader of the Central Cost Strategy & Analytics team, within the Global Supplier Management (GSM) organization, you will be responsible for:

  • Management of GSM’s cost savings planning and strategy on $7B+ of annual spend
  • Leading strategy and execution of the $80M+ annual Value Engineering portfolio, a strategic annual investment between supply chain and engineering, to drive cost optimization via design improvements, alternate sourcing and cross-pollination of ideas across all Cisco’s business entities, in close partnership with senior leaders and executives in engineering, finance and supply chain
  • Leading GSM’s quarterly cost process, where senior engineering, supply chain and finance executives review and prioritize funding for ideas presented to the Value Engineering Board and commit to attainment of our cost savings initiatives in each commodity
  • Driving the Fiscal Year Planning process for product cost savings, working closely with the leadership and Commodity Management Teams (CMTs) across GSM
  • Advancing our capabilities in data analytics to identify new insights on cost drivers to ensure return on investment and pay-back period targets are met, build “should-cost” models, and enable CMTs to target cost savings opportunities
  • Being an authority who provides oversight and mentorship to cost savings planning and execution for all commodities run by GSM
  • Supervising areas of under-performance vs. plan and collaborating with CMTs to drive closure of gaps vs. plan
  • Building out GSM’s data and analytics capabilities, and delivering these insights via simple, easy-to-consume dashboards to CMTs
  • Working very closely with GSM Finance team to ensure cost savings at the commodity level are translated accurately into the P&L
  • Mentoring, developing and guiding a team of individuals to continuously find optimization opportunities on all of Cisco’s product portfolio
  • Driving a culture of performance and collaboration, collectively pushing each other to deliver the best gross margin outcomes for Cisco

  • In this highly prominent role, you will work with senior executives across several functions as a key enabler for Cisco’s Product Gross Margins strategy

  • Able to guide a team with a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences and skillsets with a clear, unusual mission
  • Analytical thinking, results-oriented leader with an aptitude to deliver on commitments made
  • Validated history of setting and attaining results-oriented business objectives, both individually & in collaboration with other partners
  • Shown ability to take sophisticated problems, break them into significantly smaller blocks to tackle, and then put the pieces back to solve the overall problem
  • Prior experience influencing at the VP and SVP level through relevant insights, clear communication and building trust by being self-accountable

Minimum requirements for this role:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in analytical domains (Finance, Economics, Statistics/Data Science, MBA etc.)
  • 7+ years of experience requiring deep analytical difficulty and data-based decision making, preferably in the area of supply chain or operations
  • At least one prior role as a people leader preferred, although we are open to outstanding first time managerial candidates with documented experience coaching and mentoring others
