Position Description

What you will do at Precinct One

Commissioner Precinct One has multiple opportunities for Park Supervisors throughout our various Park locations. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of their assigned park locations.

Responsibilities include supervision, planning, and coordination of parks teams in charge of maintaining parks to the highest standards. Park Supervisors are also hands-on supervisors that assist with the maintenance and upkeep of park grounds, park amenities, athletic fields, trails, and equipment.

Responsibilities also include but are not limited to landscaping, mowing, litter and debris control, and other general maintenance activities. Administrative duties include but are not limited to management of work schedules, employee supervision, training, safety programs, payroll, and performance reviews. Park Supervisors are also required to submit reports, purchase requests and support compliance with all policies, rules, and regulations. All work assignments are outdoors and subject to weekend, after-hours, and holiday schedules.

Requirements

What you will bring to Precinct One

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Experience in grounds keeping
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Commercial Drivers License may be required to be obtained within a given time frame

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service and ability to support a safe and positive workplace environment
  • Effective supervisory skills that utilize best practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate expectations and lead teams
  • Ability to consistently meet or exceed established standards
  • Ability to identify needs and successfully achieve goals

About Precinct One

There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government. With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other. Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into the eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex, the renowned Texas Medical Center, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston’s main and downtown campuses, and the University of St. Thomas.

Precinct One is home to more than 20 county parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers, and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
