Sulfuric Acid Plant Manager- El Paso, TX

This is a Full-time position in El Paso, TX posted August 25, 2021.

The Veolia Borderland Plant located in El Paso, Texas is looking for a Plant Manager to provide
leadership and guidance for the safe operation of the Borderland Sulfuric Acid Plant, a $110 million
dollar facility. The Plant Manager leads an organization of 5 staff members, 19 process technicians, 3 E&I
technicians and 7 full time contractors. The site is represented.

The Borderland Plant is located inside the limits of the Marathon Refinery in El Paso, Texas and provides
sulfuric acid processing services primarily to the Marathon Refinery as well as servicing other refineries
and the merchant sulfuric acid market.

This facility started operations in 2007. Sulfur bearing gases and spent sulfuric acid are processed from
the refinery reducing the refinery’s environmental footprint.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
– Provide Safety, Health, and Environmental Leadership
– Provides Process Safety Management leadership in a High Hazard Process environment
– Establish, sustain, and improve standard operating systems
– Champion operational discipline
– Foster an environment with open communication and feedback
– Drive high production capability though utilization of improvement programs and maintenance
best practices
– Plan, develop, and implement HR initiatives
– Represent the Borderland site in the Community Advisory Panel
– Champion the High Performance Work Teams
– Manage area personnel – provide mentoring and guidance for direct reports, and oversee
training and development systems
– Work with the site employees to manage day-to-day operations
– Interface with the Supply Chain for coordination of production and shipping schedules
– Effectively communicate and interface with the Refinery
– Effectively utilize leveraged resources as required
– Accountable for total site cost and capital expenditures
– Accountable for being compliant with all corporate systems and processes
– Promote and support change in response to ongoing business needs

Qualifications

– 4 year degree in engineering or equivalent
– Previous Management experience
– Process Safety Management Experience in a High Hazard Process facility
– 5 years of manufacturing experience in a chemical, refining or pharmaceutical industry

– Strong leadership skills and experience
– Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
– Ability to set priorities and provide direction to influence management and the broader
organization
– Demonstrated strong teamwork, collaboration and cross-cultural skills
– Demonstrated ability to create a respectful work environment where everyone can contribute
to their full potential
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
– Six Sigma Certification
– Root Cause Investigation
– Incident Investigation
– Business software (SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
– Experience at a represented site
