Transportation Superintendent


This is a Full-time position in ROANOKE, TX posted August 22, 2021.

Albertsons Safeway is working to become the favorite food and drug retailer in every market it serves.

The organization includes 2,318 stores, 40 distribution facilities and 18 manufacturing plants with over 275,000 employees across 34 states and the District of Columbia.

The company is privately owned with supermarkets across the country that include: Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Carrs, ACME, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw’s, Star Market, Super Saver, United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos.

This position will supervise supervision, drivers, clerical support, mechanics and equipment.

As needed will dispatch retail store deliveries.

Ensure driver compliance with state and federal DOT regulations.

Assist with required records, reports and control systems.

The position can work without a manager physically on site.

Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated: 4 year college degree in Logistics or Business preferred.

5-10 years management level experience in Distribution / Transportation.

Expert use of Microsoft Work, Excel, and Access and associated applications is strongly preferred.

Extensive knowledge of transportation related software including: routing optimization software software (Manugistics JDA); truck on-board computer software (XATA); Lytx, CAMS, Cosmos, dispatch software (Prospero).

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

Must be able to manage effectively in a team environment, motivating and inspiring to employees.

Strong leadership, able to be motivating and inspiring to employees.

A mentor and resource.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, a dedicated communicator and listener.

Strong organizational skills, utilizes discretionary effort daily to improve performance and create efficiencies.

Proven track record of cost reduction and increased productivity.

Creative problem solver with strong follow through.

Expert knowledge and experience in operating within the guidelines of DOT, OSHA, Health Department, and other regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversee all product movement for the Southern Division Distribution Center.

Supervise up to 100+ drivers and direct the workforce as needed daily.

Coordination of transportation operations with Distribution Center.

Fostering supportive and communicative relationship with Retail Partners and the Distribution Center.

Management off all Transportation Operations.

Provide superior service to retail stores through on-time delivery and timely return of salvage.

Provide a safe work environment for all employees.

Proven ability to manage employee relations (policy, discipline, evaluation, leadership).

Responsible for profit and loss of Transportation Department including employee costs, equipment, and facilities.

Develop budgetary and departmental goals.

Implement cost-saving measures within the department.

Keep abreast of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; ensure all employees and equipment are in DOT compliance.

Optimize the utilization of equipment and staffing in a dynamic environment.

Execute corporate vision and foster a lean distribution, continuous improvement environment.
